im just wondering if this would be possible? because i dont like the way my 97 bumper looks and i think an 03+ one would look better.

yeah it can be done. the 03 has the piece that comes up under the taillight thats made in the bumper. you can remove that piece on yours and the 03 will work.

that's right FTW...just take the stock one and the little fillers under the taillights off, and bolt it right on. see....at least two people on here didnt just say "search" LOL

I have a different question. What is NEEDED so the bumper doesnt sag on the 97 as far as the crush gaurd underneath the rear bumper? Does the 03+ factory one have to be used? What about the side brackets, are those all of the same for the years?

Ok, are the L brackets the ones that bolt to the underside of rear quarters that hold the sides of the bumper on? Or a totally different L bracket? Ive never seen the 03+ rear bumper setup in person.

Yes, they are the plastic strips that run under the quarters...you will need the 03+ mounting strips, as they extend up behind the tail filler to hold that portion of the bumper in place:
