I bout this car about 7 months ago, i love it, got sucked right in to the jbody family and love this sight
on october 25 2010 i wrecked it, women in front of me slammed on her brakes rear ended her.
Motor and Trans is fine, Still runs strong.. frame is bent only about 8 inches from the front slightly to the left..
i love this car 86k miles, power everything, sunroof. im only 17 first car... 2.2l Automatic but would like a 5spd swap..
my question is should i, and can i save this car?...i would love your help once again from the Jbody community
Thank you very much,
Larry
Front End of Car:
Whats your skill set and what kind of tools do you have access to? Youre going to need the frame pulled to get it back to being square obviously. The rest looks like it should just be a matter of finding new panels and bolting i back on.
To be honest for the cost involved in that it may outweigh the cost of a different Cavalier. Especially a 2.2 car.
For the cost of fixing and inspections you can probably replace it. Definitely do your homework, price out pulling the frame, wheel alignment, panel replacement, paint, and unexpected things like brakes and tires.
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
Yes the car can be saved, but it probably wont be worth it.
If my 03 ever got wreaked i'd probably pick up an 00-02 OHV cav and swap all of my goodies over.
its an old concept. time for something new to take the reigns. - Z yaaaa
It's totalled. No point in fixing it.
They're never the same once you revive them from that state. Better off buying another one.
Probably be much more cost effective to part out that one and buy another. Not to mention alot less work.
If I were you id be looking for a cavy with the options you want. There plenty of them out there. Like said above it depends on your skills. It would be an easy fix for me but I have tools to do it. You wouldnt get the frame straightend because its a subframe;you would just put another one in.New fenders, headlamps, hood bumper, maybe even your doors depending on how hard you hit( subframe shifting). buy another one and use this one for a parts car. just my 2cent though.

Thanks Everyone for the reply, i have actually got a 2001 Cavy Rally sport for free it has a 165k miles on it, and i got a guy who wants to by mine for parts, im think about getting atleast a grand out of it.

Uh his radiator support is bent? Thats not the subframe. He still would need to pull it back square or cut the section out of a donor car and weld it back in.

what really happend?
now that you mention it that is some very significant damage for that type of accident. It definetely looks more like he hit something that wasn't moving. Maybe the woman slammed on her brakes, then parked the vehicle and got out and then he hit her car? Obviously thats a joke, but it seems like some details were left out here...
Thats what happened the questions is, does it matter, Wrecked is Wrecked, how much will it cost to get the frame unbent?

I look at the picture and see nothing resembling a simple rear ending. the damage is not directed towards the front of the car as if it had hit straight on,damage is pretty significant from the side as if swerving or losing control and hitting something.even the paint by the drivers side fender seemes to be screwed up from the side and not from front to back...not to mention d the airbags didnt go off. if he was going fast enough to cause that amount of damage rear ending someing it would have been fast enough and bad enough to set them off... I rear ended someone two years ago doing maaaaybe 15mph at best,no damage to the body or frame but both air bags went off destroying my windsheild..

yes wreaked is wreaked, but if you give accurate details of what really happend people can get a better idea of the damage they cant see in the pictureand give you a better opinions of cost and details on a fix for you on your car.
the picture just doesnt seem to agree with what youre saying was a simple rear end accident for reasons already given in my previous post..
I mean if ya did something stupid and got into an accident that youre embarrassed about I can understand, but accurate details get accurate responsses..
