Project: Projectors
Wednesday, December 29, 2010 10:42 PM
hey guys,
as the title says, I want to get deep into a "projectors" project for both of my cavaliers. I have been doing some reading and there seems to be different routes depending on $$ and skills and im hoping you guys can shed light on me. First of all, i have never done anything close to this but im mechanically inclined to tackle a project like this. I have seen a couple of projects from other members here and the finished product is definitively where i would like to get.
I went to the junk yard today and found a set of 2000 cavy lights. I also found a 95 infinity j30 that has projector lights. I know it is old but for a trial and error it cant get better. Friday will be half off at the yard so im planning to get those.
I have sen the no-cut dyi projectors most people use. Those are nice but im going to try this way first and see how they come out.
Any ideas or comments would be appreciated. Btw the cars are a 00 and 03.

its not that hard to do, just know that with the projectors you mentioned using youll lose your high beam unless you retrofit in high/low bulbs. when you put them back togather make sure they have a good seal or youll end up with condensation in the lights.

thanks for the advice ecosleeper. I have a chance to buy a pair of 07-08 nissan maxima lights. They come with the ballast and the bulbs. not sure if they will fit. Any idea if those projectors willfit on either the 00-02 lights or the 03-05 lights?

never used them out of a 07-08 maxima before, so your guess is as good as mine. any projectors can fit is just making them fit can be a pain in the ass i.e. removing some of the radiator support, modifing the housings, modifing the aiming system. many things my need to be done to get them in there and sealed.

If going this route, you want to start with a good, quality bi-xenon projector....probably not what the junk yard has laying around. There are now copies of the most popular retrofit projectors made, like the infinity fx, that you can pick up the real thing, or the replica for a good price. The quality of the projector itself, as well as the output will be well worth the investment.

take extra time when aiming the projectors before you seal them up as you dont want to blind other drivers, if you build your own that is using oem units.
