So my front bumper is destroyed.
Wednesday, January 05, 2011 7:00 PM
Long story short, my sister drove my car right into a trailer. Luckily it was only cosmetic damage.
The bumper's cracked from the strain up near both headlights, and split in three places on the bottom lip part.

My question is whether I can fix it or not, and if so, how? I want to get a new bumper altogether, but I've called every junkyard in Maine and Northern NH, and no one has an arrival blue LSS bumper, so I want to just try mending it.

At the moment, i've patched it a little with a couple metal rods holding up the bumper, but I really want my car back to normal. My sister refuses to pay for it, and my parents blame me, so I'm on my own, and was hoping there was an easier fix than ordering an Ebay bumper, then having to paint it to match my car again.

To repair it, you would need a plastic welder, the corresponding plastic filler welding rod, patching mesh, filler, sandpaper, a grinder...
Even then you would have to have it painted when done.

Urethane bumper so lord fusor is going to be necessary for reconnecting the cracks, also you'll need any chunks that broke off.

I hope you're good at bodywork.

i think this is one of those things, if ya gotta ask, then you prob shouldn't do it.

pretty sure last time i priced out a brand new aftermarket z24 bumper it was like 150$, so depending on how bad it is its not really worth fixing.

Alright, in that case, I'll just keep looking for a replacement LSS bumper. I know for a fact that I'm not competent enough to do this by myself now. Thanks guys.
I honestly thought I could just bondo it or something, since the whole thing's technically back in place, but I guess I was wrong.

you could always try and do more damage to it and do the zip tie stitching if you want epic street cred

had a blown ecotec swapped 2000 cavy, now just an 02 Grand Am, and a 74 BMW 2002...

Hahaha, If I want more "street cred," I probably won't drive a cavalier. Just saying.

Pics of how bad it is? I would just try to find one and have it repainted if it's that bad. There was a silver one for sale on craigslist not long ago (i live in NH).. Did you look on there?

I too was going to say just zip tie it. if its already that messed up. And then once you have the money/find one swap them. If you're lucky the stitches fad will have finally hit here by the time you go to sell and can make a profit.
