Just bought a set of stock housings on ebay that are black for my 2001 Z24, and i'm looking to install HID's down the road. I know that doing HID's in the stock reflector housings is a bad idea but these new headlights are painted black on the bottom portion of the housing. Will that painted portion be enough to prevent the glare produced by the HID's? Has anyone installed HID's in these same housings?

i have those same headlights... they suck... no matter how much i adjust them up, they never get
back to the same height as factory headlights... i recently installed hid's also and even w/ them
angled up it's like i have fog lights as headlights... i recommend either painting the bottom chrome
or installing projectors.... or get ur money back and leave the stock headlights...

yeah, the black paint is going to highly affect output, reguardless of what bulb you are running. Chrome paint wont help you either. I recomend making your own black headlights, as shown in the sticky in this forum. Otherwise your only option for light output is to install projectors in there.

yea, best option is the projectors... and John is the man when coming to making them...

yeah, i still make them, just on a limited basis.

only when i put projectors in.....unless you mean painting the bezel.

I meant to see if anyone has blacked out the bottom or sides of the reflector for the headlight and if so... did it harshly diminish light output
