general ideas

Now, i know that MY opinion is the only one that matters- But i'm going to ask for input on this topic.

I've had my sunny for over a year now, and she's gone through a few phases.

This crazy winter, (CT has six feet of snow right now) has rendered most of the stuff that i've put on useless now, (Ironic vinyls) yadda yadda.
so i've thus thought about going in a different direction with her.

I dont want to stick out like a sore thumb, and i also dont want something that looks stock. (Im honestly COMPLETELY up in the air about where this is going)
Attached are a few pics. Im on a limited budget (10K in debt at the moment. F*** home loans.) and cant drop a ton of money into this car.

I've stickerbombed select parts (Mirror sails, Strut bars,) and have an impressive sound system; but i'm REALLY looking for something to say "Yeah, this is my daily driver, But i love the HELL out of her.)

She's got a drop on her, so i dont need to go any lower, but at the same time, i cant really afford new wheels, (Related post about destroying my last pair) so it seems that im stuck on 16 inch steelies (Any idea on how to make these look ANY better?)

I know that i need to vinyl my back window over my dot matrix,
but i'm honestly looking for more ideas of what to do with a couple buddies.
(NOT worried about power, have plenty of it, instead, just want visual stuff.)
What would look good on this car? this color?
Basically, im asking (NOT TO BE FLAMED,) but if this were YOUR jbo, What would you do?

Please and thank you, Jbo!

Ah, should also say that she's as shaved as she can get.

Re: general ideas
Tuesday, February 01, 2011 12:58 PM
also ditched the clear markers, and went for painted ones, instead.
here is what the front end CURRENTLY looks like:

Re: general ideas

still has the side molding and i dislike side moldings.... how bout you shave those caps

Re: general ideas
Tuesday, February 01, 2011 1:04 PM
i cant shave the molding; only because she IS a daily, and i go to school in the middle of the ghetto, where im PRETTY SURE, my little sunfire is the most expensive car on campus.
Rather- I'd rather get dings in my sidemolding and have to repaint/ touch them up for now, then get it in my doors themselves.

Re: general ideas

I would shave the door mouldings for starters, those are usually the first thing to go on any J that comes into my ownership, lol. As for the wheels, not much you can do to make steelies look good IMO, but do you have any U Pull It junkyards near you? I think 95-99 z24 wheels look great on sunfires, and I know at least at the yards around here any stock aluminum wheels are only like $16 per wheel. Depending on the tire size on your steelies you could swap them right over.
As for lighting, if it was me, I would look for clear lenses for your front bumper turn markers (amber bulbs obviously), and maybe niteshade the tails and trunk panel.

Real (not sticker) eyelids are par for the course when you're talking about making a sunfire look good. Also dropping the body.

Re: general ideas
Tuesday, February 01, 2011 1:15 PM
Body is dropped as far as the roads around me will allow for her.

I dont want to go TOO far into body work, only because as much as i like the mean looking eyelids; I dont know if it's for me.

In over a year of searching, i havent been able to find a LOCAL pick yard; but there are a few in surrounding states.

Keep up the suggestions, guys. I really appreciate it.

Clear front turn lenses with the switch back bulbs would be badass IMO. I had it when I had clear front lenses (98 GT bumper) and it def set the car apart until I went into a ditch and destroyed my bumper.

those are pretty baller. Not gunna lie. Just as i checked back into this thread, i finished searching for clear lenses on ebay.

Sadly, im too much of a goof to trust myself with installing new lenses.
Ill be on the lookout for full housings, though

i agree with most, clear front turns and some type of treatment to the rear panel. pm me if you need some help with the lights.

95-99 Gt Front turn signals are exact same as yours but clear

if it was my car, i'd do an 03-05 rear conversion & shaved trunk, evil eye hood, gt front bumper, gt rims with a dirty set of bf kdw tires

I like the sound of this.
Was going to do clear fogs a while back, and had the idea, not sure why i didnt. Something must have come up.

I LOVE the idea of the GT bumper, but sadly, i have NO pull it places around me; so it would be next to impossible to find these parts without paying/ driving a million miles just to get them, then have to deal with paint, etc.

I'm shaving my trunk this summer, regardless. i've got all of the materials to do that, and cant wait to get it going.

What do you all think about yellow headlights?
Someone on a local forum suggested it; and mentioned that i might be lookin good with yellow bulbs, and white fogs. (Perhaps my stocker ambers?)
What do you all think? is this even worth thinking about?

I can not do HIDs. i get pulled over/ harassed weekly as it is; and even if they ARE fully legal; i dont need it anymore. (I live in a tinnnnny town, where cops know everyone)

i've also been thinking simple stuff-
i was looking at these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-04-CHEVY-CAVALIER-2DR-CARBON-ARROW-LED-SIDE-MIRRORS-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZModelQ3aCavalierQQhashZitem483e89d957QQitemZ310286866775QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ 5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

and wondering about painting them body color. They'll fit, yeah?

Also planning on doing my handles as well.

I should have clarified earlier: I DONT mind painting. I think it's kinda fun to do on my own.
Im basically looking for small things to do, if not major, then subtle, with friends on days off from work/ school.

The car has to be drivable on any given day, since it IS my daily driver, so i think that takes away from any possibilities of conversions, (At least at this point in time)

Keep going, guys. Im lovin it!

my cars is my daily driver to, start cuttin lol

if you get hassled for HID's i'd deff. not be doing yellow headlights. Although they may look cool chances are wont work worth a @!#$. I like running yellow fogs tho.
One thing to watch with those mirrors are alot of the cheaper eBay ones stick up on an odd angle and look like dumbo ears.

I never would have known that about the mirrors. Thank you.
I'll have to take a look at the sellers reviews.

Now back on the topic of yellow fogs:
If i go with clear lamps, do you think yellow (Instead of amber) would look okay with the color of my car?
If i went to a GT bumper like suggested, would it look stupid to have one set of yellow fogs, then the amber turns?

Go with the GT sideskirts and 03+ rear end conversion. 95-99 GT front bumper, evil eyes, lower it, and new paint job.

HIDs are NOT legal. Standard headlight housings aren't designed for them and almost no aftermarket ones are DOT legal.

Dont do yellow headlights as said. yellow fogs are nice, but might not look the best on the gold, but id still consider them.

If you want some aftermarket mirrors, i have some APC ones that dont sit at a weird angle if you are interested, they have the led turn signal in them as well.

paint the handles, maybe the b-pillars, shave the trunk, and find some nice wheels used on CL or something.

Thanks guys.

John, What are you looking at for those mirrors?
Also, thanks for the info about the lighting.
I've got a set of spare handles prepped for paint.

Thanks again, folks.

Did the nightshades thing on my rear panel and lights and it made the rear end look a lot better, I recommend it.

and as for steelies looking good, beauty rings do the trick and fool ppl into thinking they are rims...and i mean the REAL metal ones, not plastics from autozone tht crack and theyjust dont clean up as well

How do you figure? My Altima came stock with HID low beams, I highly doubt an auto manufacturer would sell "illegal" cars.

he was refering to aftermarkwt HIDs, your housings were designed for the HID systems, the J-body headlights were designed for halogen bulbs.
