i have a 99 cavalier and i was wondering if there is anyway to improve the light output from the headlights with out buying new housings
HID projector kits are your best option.
or if you don't want to go that route, Sylvania SilverStar halogen bulbs make a pretty good improvement.

if you have yellowing lenses, you can try a lens restoring product, but bulbs are your easiest upgrade.
the lenses dont seem to be yellow. its just where they have that pattern on the inside, it seems to distort the light coming out so its not as bright as it could be
stock cavalier headlights suck unless you get projectors and hids theres not to many options out there

that pattern on the inside directs the light and distributes it to where it needs to go. the smoothed lens versions, the chrome part behind the light is baffled to do this instead (i hope tht makes sence). the fluting on the lens is necessary for your application, and you would loose output without it there.
so i couldnt take the lens off the housing and sand the lens smooth?
