I Currently have the EVO 5 kit installed, but after run in with an ice ridge I smashed up the drivers corner. This turned out for the better. The kit is a JT Autostyle bought from Streetconcept. The fit was HORRENDOUS, like 8 hours work simply to get it on let alone extreme modifications to get it sitting "proper". The fit was so bad I actually had to aggresively cut out the headlight cutouts and by the time all was said and done still looked like crap. Was about to hire a fiberglass worker to do some modifications.
So currently have been looking at (by all reviews) a Duraflex replacement from Extreme Dimensions. I know fiberglass kits can be finicky and require some shaving and so forth, custom brackets even (as was with the JT kit). I am not a newbie to autobody, have painted many vehicles and modified as many. My issue is simply, I hate working with glass.
To get to the simple point, are the ED kits as durable as advertised, and reasonable fit? I would love to put on an ABS kit but none I like for the few and far between. This is actually an 05 kit on a 00 Cav. Has anyone worked with these or seen the fit after?
i actully started putting a duraflex extreme Dimensions xplosion kit on my 95 2 door sunfire they are just like fiberglass kits
they have a gel coat over them thats suppose to make it stronger but in my opinion it dont just as fragile and there not direct fit extreme modification to kit and car are required
Duraflex is nothing more than an advertising gimmick. Duraflex is just a "brand name" ED has given to their fiberglass kits. It's still just plain fiberglass, will have poor fitment, and be just as fragile...only difference is you'll pay even more for it.
When you watch the videos on these vendors sites showing how the Duraflex bends and bows like plastic, they are probably showing an actual plastic bumper and just advertising it as duraflex/fiberglass.
Pretty much ANY fiberglass kit is going to have fitment issues and will need correcting for proper fitment. I doubt any are really hand laid like the vendors claimed, they are most likely cast into molds and either vaccumed or heated, and fiberglass is prone to shrinkage while curing, so that's how you end up with the poor fitment.
I would just with a urethane kit if you want to avoid fitment or quality issues.
I agree.... I just spent 15 hrs just getting a bc2 kit to fit a 03 cav. That was just a rough fit too! Buy urethane and be happy
I would love to buy a Urethane unfortunatly I can only find one kit and im not all that enthoused about its styling. Any suggestions of where too buy? I currently have been looking at buying a kit from VIS. I have their carbon fiber hood and it was excellent, bolted on, some minor adjustments and ta-da 15 mins and done. Supposedly their fiberglass kits follow the same manufacturing. If I end up with fiberglass im likely to go that route.
Well...
I have the import fighter from rk sport which is urethane.
If you do buy a glass kit it will ALWAYS need work to make fit right..some are better then others but it always takes work.
If you do get a kit thats glass and are not totally comfortable getting it to fit right ill gladly help you out since you are local to me. But wont be able to do it for free since my time is valuable, but alot alot cheaper then a bodyshop would be.
Check out photo and media on bcj the kit I did is on there.
Any kit that's urethane will please you!
Yeah I would love a Urethane, unfortunately I can only source 2, both from RK and im not to giddy about the styling. I have a used 05 stock coming that I might just do the RK lip on. Anyone have sources on urethanes for an 03-05?
There is a urethane drift kit, I think maybe PURE Motorsports makes it. The Xtreme Tuner kit from GM if you can manage to track one down, then RK Sport has the lip kit and the Type J kit. Wings West also has 2 different style urethane side skirts (95-99 and 00-02 styles), both of which would fit any J from 95-05.
