It is mainly for legal reasons. However I am working on some things like birthday announcements on the homepage. As for if people don't put their real birthday on there, the point is I made my best effort to collect that information. Incidently, once you enter your birthday, there is no way of changing it, short of contacting me. It is no longer in the profile editor.

LOL, 27,000 members, averaged out over 12 months....

Thats 2,250 birthdays a month.... lets say Dave's sticker cost is $3.00 (I have no clue what it really is)....

2250 * 3 = 6750

So, if that were to happen, it would cost Dave an extra $6,750 + shipping costs for 2,250 (assuming a stamp is $.38 that works out to $855), in total $7,605.

Yeah, don't think thats gonna happen anytime soon

No. Your bday present from all of us every year shall be some sort of sadistic April Fool's joke and you'll bloody well like it!!!

Hmm... hiding them may be a worthwhile feature... though really, we're a car site... not an international money laundering ring or something. I don't think anyone should have any reason to hide their identities and a bday isn't a terribly private piece of info unless people don't want others to know they're still a kid or something.

Frankly, I could care less about how old or young a person is and judge them based on how they conduct themselves.

I'm gonna guess this is to hinder some of the scamming that goes on sometimes.

How about Premium Access on your B-day? Zero cost.....and it might persuade that individual to go premium.

Not unless you have access to credit reports. Not everyone has that access.

BTW - Pull my credit report and e-mail it to me.

Where i work, with that info i could pull up any account you have with us, which would also enable me to pull up your credit as well. And since we have over 100 million different credit cards, chances are good that quite a large percentage of people have a credit card with us

So pull up my credit. I have 3 credit cards, at least one of them should be with you right?

Oh, but please don't post it on here, e-mail it to me. I just want my credit report! I don't want the JBO community to know what it is.

Youd have to have a GE Consumer Finance Card, something that we finance. I can get fired for pulling your credit without a business purpose. Im just stating that it can be done easily

Dude, I work as a mortgage broker... I could realisticly walk into work on Monday and just start pulling reports. Every time I do, it can hurt that person's score and THEN I have all of your account information...

This is not BS, I have worked with a couple of people who are here on the ORG to help them get financing to buy a home.

Alright, so you guys come out and say you can pull credit reports, then I ask you to do mine, give you my b-day and name, and you won't pull it for me? That's weak

They're also saying they could get in trouble for doing it.... so... really... the concern is still negligible.

I could care less about my credit report. I live in Canada.. we build igloos here

Anyone with a good knowledge of computers and the interent could probly find out anything about you with your initials so i dont think its too big of a deal.

Not to mention... You already have the city and state you live in. Plus personal contact information. Anyone can use your Yahoo AIM or MSN screenname you got posted and talk to you, veiw your IM profiles, visit your links, and find out plenty about you that way.

Oh and... License plates in your pics

So honestly, get over the birthday thing, it should be the least of your concerns compared to some of the other stuff you got posted.

I personally think they should be hidden. If Dave did it for legal reasons that is fine, but the option to hide it should also ber there like all the other message boards I have ever been to.

As for the credit report stuff they are right. it is easy to pulll info with that stuff. As for why they won;t do it for Ronus, its illegal to pull a report with out written consent. Hell I just got a notice in the mail for a class action law suit involving my insuracne group where they were supposedly pulling credit reports without consent once they got your info so they could decide what kind of risk you were. Since they didn't have consent forms they are now involved iwuth this lawsuit.
