Can you tell exactly when the site came back online? Looks like there were a few people up at midnight PST just waiting.

Here's the breakdown of what happened - in the very early morning on December 28 our web server became unresponsive. Since I couldn't physically access the machine at that time I just tried to restart it, hoping it wasn't anything major. When it didn't come back up I contacted the NOC and they were able to help me diagnose and confirm that the server's RAID card, what controls the hard drives, had failed. I was able to find the part from a distributor on the east coast, but with the New Years holiday, and shipping delays, it took over a week to arrive. We finally got back online at around 11:55pm PST January 11. I made the deadline posted on Facebook with just a couple minutes to spare.

Now its time to figure out a plan to make sure we don't have an extended downtime again. The problem we have right now is we only have one web server, which also doubles as the member database. Its a good machine, but obviously like any computer, it can break. There are a few ways we can go to achieve a more reliable setup. I'm working out the details now and hopefully we can get something in place in the coming months.

Thanks to everyone who has offered use of their shared servers or laptops or whatnot. What we need though is a bit more involved then that. What we might need is a bit of financial assistance, but I'm not looking for handouts. We've started planning some giveaways and such for those people willing to help. I want everyone that can help to get something in return. Once we figure out what we need, I'll post more information. For now I welcome any comments or suggestions.
