99 Z24 Chain Rattle

Ok, I'm really at a loss here. Here is the quick version of what is going on. I replaced the water pump a couple of weeks ago and started getting a really nasty rattle coming from the timing chain area. I pulled the timing chain housing plate back off and could see a mark where the chain was riding on the plate. The mark was aligned with the top of the guide that the tensioner pushes against. Yesterday I replaced the chain, guides, cam sprockets, crank sprocket and tensioner. Basically all of the timing components. Drove into work this moring and am still getting the rattle. Not as bad as before but I'm sure a few more days of driving and I'll be back where I started. What else is there to replace... I've gone over everything... everything is tourqued to specs, chain is tight, all new timing components... what else could be causing to chain to ride along the plate. The rattle does go away when engine is at higher RPMs... only seems to be bad when at idel.

Sounds like the chain tensioner wasn't reset. Once you get the chain on and all the guides reassembled, you have to push the plunger in on the tensioner with something like a flat blade screwdriver. It should then pop out and push on the guide, taking up any remaining slack in the chain.
