sweet man thats looks nice i bet it rides sweet
whats that suspension out of, that looks almost bolt on
Its not how fast your car goes....its how much nerve the driver has to push it that fast.
Bill: where have you been? That's the N-Body IRS Swap as described
here
dang i need to find a lift around here who can lift my car with a kit on it.
awesome man that looks sweet!
Aside from the exhaust welding, driving back and forth to find parts, etc... and breakfast, lunch, dicking around... evacuating the shop because someone let a nasty fart go.... it only took us... oh... 4 hours? But I'd done my car before so I knew all the measurements, etc... plus we had the cars side-by-side to compare. Wasn't that bad... it was nice to have lots of hands around to help, and we could all work on different parts at the same time. It was a productive day! (which reminds me... I should have brought BEER!)
I swapped my rear sway bar at the same time.... from the stock Alero bar to the www.partsforyourcar.com one:
Handles VERY nice now.... can't wait to get mine lowered tho
can't find a set of rear Eibach pro-kit springs for cheap
So what would you say the price of that whole deal would cost to do? Just curious.
the complete set up cost me $520Can and that was incl the 2001 Grand Prix front brake lines that were required to replace the short Alero rear ones. it is basicaly a bolt in affair but your zaust will need to be re-routed. as for somenoe who mentioned getting a kitted car on a hoist.......no problem if ya know what your doing. 2x4's can be your friend.
I would really like to see a picture from striaght behind the car so you can see what the set-up does to the track on the rear end, with regards to the rear fenders. And yeah it looks like a nice upgrade Lenko, what struts and springs are on their right now?
im just curious, but is a 2nd gen rear unibody the same as a 3rd gen aside from the shock and strut. im not worried about the shock and strut since my car is bagged. i think that it would look nice and different.
I'd so love to do that to my car... it sucks that I don't know anone who'd have the knowledge and be willing to do the install
awesome work man !

Close, but not close enough for a bolt on like this. You need to modify the N body subframe to fit or something, instead of just bolting it on. _gus_ on V6Z24 tried it, and IIRC, it was with Lenko.
modify thats nothing new to me, i guess i will have to try it. is the track width the same for the alero and the cav.
The Alero track is a good inch wider. You need to use different wheels too (5x115 bolt pattern) and most are going to be wider yet. I didn't skinny my setup at all, and used Grand Prix rims. I need to roll the rear fenders because they just barely touch.
Looks terrific guys, much props, looks like it belongs there.

Yha I was suprised how easy it was, but it helped having John's car on the lift 8ft. away.
Even getting discs in the back is worth the $500 bucks in my mind. the IRS and wider track are all freebees if you ask me.

i'm not Lenko!! i used the stock Alero strut with Sprint J body spring. works well. oh and the bolt pattern isn't 5x115 its 5x114.3(4.5") the inch wider gives it a nice stance. i had to roll the fenders to make clearence for things. the top couple pics are of me rolling the fenders.
I was responding to Lenkos comments following yours. I know you aren't Lenko, as Lenko scared me as we were leaving Indy last year going north.....
The bolt pattern is 5x115, but it really doesn't matter. Make sure you pick up a spare if you haven't already. And those struts will not hold up to those springs, they'll blow. I'm using Konis on mine, easy and reliable.
hmmmm the 5x115 bolt pattern on my front rims was dif then the Alero. i had to purchase 2 rims at 5x114.3 for them to bolt on properly. they fit but wouldn't torque down properly due to being a little out on the patern. mebbe the US car is dif then the Canadian car. i don't think so myself but the Alero pattern i used is 5x114.3.
Nice work...
I'm going to have to put this on my list of "Things I want but cant afford right now because I'm broke and in debt up to my ears."
That is strange. I don't know if it being Canadian has anyhting to do with it, could be.
A 5x114.3 should be interchangable with 5x115 though. It's only off by 0.35mm on each lug.
man, everytime i look at this i want to do it for my next mod.. very cool!!!
