I managed to snag a RKSport rear sway bar for $25 off some guy. The thing is in pretty good condition, but he accidentally snapped one of the U-Bolts when taking it off... I posted before about trying to find a replacement part, but RKSport wasn't very helpful, and no place local seems to have the right size. So after weighing my options, I had my roomate (he's in the automotive engineering club here at school) make me up the best replacement he could. Here's a picture with the new one on the right and an original on the left.
I know it's not perfect, but does everybody think this will hold up? The thread isn't exactly the same length and I'm not sure yet if that's going to matter.
As long as you can get your nuts on there you will be fine.
Looks good man...... as long as you can thread it should work just fine...
would be better to have a longer rather then shorter thread tho...

Looks good dann. I'd have him make you another one just to be safe and you know you won't break or strip the threads on the older v-bend bolt. Then you just got to mount that baby up.
If it doesn't work call Hellwig products. Here a link to their site. They may be able to help you out.

If it fits, it fits. What's it made of though? I mean, I could make you one out of some twisted up tin foil and it's not gonna do you a world of good.
How do you know how strong it is?
what grade is it? check that first!

Looks like a nice job, from the picture. Is it the same diameter, it looks smaller?
It will probably work fine, mine didn't seem like they were made of any kind of 'hi-grade' steel (actually seemed kind of soft).
Another option would be to go to a local 'spring repair shop', I know a lot of them make their own U-bolts, and they 'are' hardened steel.
