Whats the diffrence besides where you mount them?

one is a brace for in and out movement

one applies force to the opposite side of the suspension.

Strut bars go on top of the strut tower, and swaybars go under from side to side. Front spans the a-arms, while the rear attaches to the trailing arm.

and on the jbody, the swaybar does more to improve the suspension than the strut bar.

Basically, they serve completely different purposes. The bottom equivilant of a strut brace would be a subframe brace. The braces stiffen up the car and prevent the body from distorting from the forces put on it.

Braces aren't really suspension components, though we deal with them in this forum. They're more like just making the body better than what GM gave us.

Sway bars are active suspension pieces. They actively resist body roll to keep the car more level through turns. Basically, in order for the body to roll (one side to dip more than the other) the sway bar has to be twisted. Obviously it resists this twisting and helps to keep the car level and both wheels planted squarely on the ground.

while i def agree on that, no doubt brah, on ANY car a swaybar will make more of a difference good or bad.

strut braces and tie bars are there just to brace. consider it a roll cage without the "roll over protection" just stiffens the car.


swaybars alter the handling characteristics, which braces keep it consistent and precise.
