I just put 225-45-17's on my car and decided to take her out for a spin last night on some windy back roads and whip it around and boy it grips like hell now, almost like driving a totally different car it was incredibly smooth but the only problem is now it has a tendency to oversteer when your really pushing it and because of the susepsnion you cannot push it to the tire braking limit so I am wondering what the best suspension mods I can do are, I already have a front strut tower brace and 1. 8" - 2.3" eibach sportlines, let me know what you guys think. And as a side note anyone that think 225's are too wide for J's has never driven one with them :-)
Nobody in this forum thinks 225's are too wide.
If you haven't already upgraded them, then the first thing you should be getting is some proper dampers. Koni and Tein both make good ones that can handle the Sportlines.
As for the difference you're feeling from the tires... good stuff.
Tires are probably the most important part of the suspension and people often underestimate the effect they have.
It definitely corners better, the only problem is because the tires are SOOO much wider I tend to oversteer a little in sharp corners and the chassis feels a little loose, I was thinking swaybars might negate that effect but I was curious on what you guys thought? All I know is I took the swaybars out on my Trans Am for dragging and it feels like an exageration of how the sunfire steers so with my common sense I thought it needed a swaybar lol, thanks for the help guys let me know what you think.
sway bars will help and yes you should invest in some struts if you dont already have them
Meat and Potatoes first. You have the springs, you need struts. Your stock struts will not last long at all. Koni Yellows or Tokico D-Specs are necessary if you want something that will last.
After that I'd suggest a good front and rear sway bar setup. Either Addco or Eibach are good. I think stock FE2 (Z24 or GT) in the front with an Eibach rear is a very good setup; each person will have their own opinion of course, and there's no lack around here.
225 tires would not cause oversteer. Your oversteer is most likely caused by poor shocks.
I like a little oversteer anyway.
