Floor bars are junk.

Misnblu has a trunk bar setup, as do I.

Very cheap and effective if done correctly.

Mine....

Blu's....

Another version...

And another from his car.

OEM's Bar

Original Design....

New Design....

There are a few options.

ummm... misnblu has a floor bar too along with other various braces throughout the car. he did drill and tap the mounting points on his but as far as I know his is a universal ebay bar.

I never said Blu didn't have one. You can see it in the third pic of his car.

I was just stating from what I have seen/read, Floor bars do next to nothing for our cars.

I'm sure it doesn't hurt tho. It's gotta add a little something.

So I guess I shouldn't have said they are junk haha

Think about what the floor bar is doing.
It does work and noticed a nice change in the car once it was installed.
Tying the rocker panels together with the floor bar strengthens this area if done properly and saved the life of a friend of mine when he was t-boned at 45mph in his Protege' some years ago.
It actually prevented the damage from coming further into the cabin because of the floor bar he'd installed and like me, he attested to an improvement in the car with the installation of the bar.

And damn, some nice bracing going on here. Everyone else bracing makes mine look ghetto. But it all works though so to me that's what counts.
Jack up a corner of the car and the car as a whole goes up with it.
Before the bracing that never happened.

I too installed one of those ebay floor bars and noticed an positive difference.

I looked quite a while on google for a different manufacturer, but their bars were ridiculously priced ($200-300), or were too long to fit. (I wanted a plain black bar, but couldn't find one, so I ended up wrapping my bar in black roll-bar padding)

There are a good amount on ebay, but only a couple will fit, most are too big, so make sure you look at the total length of the bars first.

This one is almost the same as mine but in stainless steel.
The end plates are what to look for on a bar.
The end plates you see on the bar above are what you're looking for because you can utilize all the holes to mount the room bar or floor bar to the rockers.
This is what I did and it's super strong where I can sit on the bar and it doesn't move. I know because doing the rear seat delete, I had to use the bar to sit on while I was doing my work in the rear.

Here's the link for the one above which is very reasonably priced. It's about half of what I paid for mine.

And here is the how to on doing it right.
Again, I would highly recommend that you mount this bar using all holes using 3/8 inch grade 8 bolts to mount the bar.
You'll also have to drill and tap the threads for this to work out right so invest.

Good luck.

That is the same bar I got, nothing bad to say, except I had to clean up the internal threads for the adjuster bolt thing in the center to screw in, the threads still had some metal shavings in the way/attached.

This would work well when combined with the foam filled chasis/sub-frame members and A, B & C pillars. (Re: this thread)

^THIS^

Is my new summertime project .

So floor bars really help that much? If that is the case, I might have to get one myself.....

I'm an advocate of the floor bar in the car and recommend it to anyone that wants a stiffer chassis.
If done right, will hold up for the life of the car and provide some nice bracing.

well for one thing the add says stainless steel. it's certainly not, it is chrome plated steel (not a bad thing) theres a tiny bit of surface rust on the inside, I think before I install it I'm going to give the inside a nice coating of air tool oil and then leave it outside for the smell to dissipate. Here's an overall pic of it in my dorm room.

and heres a pic of the mounting flange, they didnt quite chamfer the holes enough for the flat head allens to fit, but idk if it'll really make a different under the carpet.

its freaking shiny thats for sure. And i think it'll look great right on top of the black carpet in my coupe. of course I cant install it until next week since my coupe's at home. I'm stuck driving my mom's 4 door 02 car with the 2200 and an auto, damn this thing's slow compared to the ecotec with a 5 spd. Its funny how I just bought the same year and color cavy as my mom... I wanted the 238i on the lot (for the same fricken price).
