Failed Inspection because of HID?
Tuesday, September 02, 2008 11:29 AM
Anyone had problems with failed inspection due to HIDs? The guy said he couldnt pass me because i dont have hi/low beams, i only have low right now i think. i have a 2000 cavalier so there's only 1 bulb...and i have to turn on high beams just to light up my HIDs. Has anyone been able to make their HIDs have both hi/low beams? Thanks!

You will either have to get new headlights with two bulbs or you'll have to replace your bulbs/ballasts with a hi/lo hid kit. I believe you can find em for the s2000 size but I don't remember anymore...it's been a while since I looked.

Upgrade to a bi-xenon hid kit.

Pobably, did it come with a wiring harness or did you have to make your own? From what you've said so far, it sounds like you wired the high-beam switch to the lows on the ballast, and you didn't wire the lows at all.

Nvm i just found out i got scammed, it was just a single beam HID. I just bought a dual beam one so that should do the trick. and i dont think i have a high-beam switch =S before it was just 1 wire to the stock bulb...and the sockets werent the right ones so i just cut off the original adapter, peeled the wires and hardwired them to the adapter for the HID bulb, unless there are other wires that i didnt know about? =S

ok, that was horrible english, but i got the point.

Anyways, you do have a high-beam switch, its on that lever thingy sticking out of your steering column
I just can't remember if it's voltage controlled or a separate wire. I'm sure someone on here has a wiring diagram that can help you out.

mine had 3 wires, i think one was for high, one for low and one ground, cause mine was plug and play but the harness adapter that connects to the stock harness was wired wrong, so i just re-wired it and it works perfect.

Technically you shouldn't pass for having HIDs period since they aren't legal for street use if they aren't equipped from factory
