Question... let's say I install the GM supercharger on my car for the upcoming car show... then a week after that, I leave for the GMSC Bash... that's a LONG drive.. and I'd love to save SOME money on the fuel I'm going to use up in the 4 day drive there.. and again 4 days back...
Once I've installed the S/C... and reflashed the computer... can I remove it? I mean.. will the car run on the computer reflash, but without the supercharger?? Any bad side effects??
Ideally... I'd get the car running... put the s/c on.. reflash... car show... take off s/c... drive to the bash... reinstall s/c (at the bash)... bash.. drink... drink... drink... bash... drink... bash... drink... (etc)... bash... take off s/c... Cedar Point... drive home... re-install s/c (at home).
Feasible? Or should I just put off installing the supercharger until I get home?

I'm wondering the same thing, but for a different reason. I would think that so long as the ecu doesn't see boost, the car would run as any normal NA car. All that changes is the injectors, and MAP sensor right? The reason I want to know as well, is I want to run the larger injectors, but I won't be boosted anytime soon, and I want the car to idle and drive properly with the larger injectors in the mean time, without needing to use an SAFC.

would it really make that much of a diference as long as u dont bring the motor into boost?
cuz i was always under the assupmtion that as long as u dont brint it into boost it would be the same as if the motor was stock for fuel economy.

You won't see a significant difference. Just keep your friggin foot off of the pedal. hehe
The bypass valve on the supercharger is completely open when not in boost. This gives you nearly the same mileage as if you didn't have the supercharger at all. The strain of the vanes on the supercharger is maybe twice as much as the disengaged clutch assembly on the a/c compressor. Try spinning both freely. They feel about the same to me.

I was going to make the same A/C analogy.
JL, when you're not in boost the blower is just spinning freely and the air is going around it. This would be way more hassle than it's worth.
just zip tie the bypass valve open , and you wont have to worru about boost on the trip tell your at the bash
That's what I was thinking I should do...
But can I run 87 octane if the bypass valve is zip-tied open? (that's why I would be removing the s/c... run the lower octane.. save money for the Bash drive...
If not.. I'll just leave the install until after I get back from the Bash.

john lower octane gas wont save you that much money, and i wouldnt run low octane just incase by accident you do see boost. Lets say you put in 10 gallons of 87 at 2 bucks a gallon. Thats 20 bucks for gas correct? Now lets do 10 gallons of 93 octane at 2.20 a gallon, thats now 22 dollars to fill up. 2 more bucks a tank, thats not a big deal man. Also dont worry about gas milage, i just recently tested mine with the supercharger on the highway, i got 360 miles on a single tank of gas.

well, seeing as no one has answered this, i do remember someone trying to run the reflash with no charger and it did not work. so once u got it done, it cant be reversed (unless u reflash to the old proggy).

At the rate it's going... I may not have the car ready for the show anyways... so I might just leave it N/A for the bash trip.
Since we're talking fuel economy now...
Vancouver, BC to Indianapolis, IN is 3891.4 km or 2418.5 miles. One way. At best, my car gets around 650 km/tank of gas. That tank is around 55 litres.. so let's say 12km/litre. The trip to the bash and back, the shortest fastest route possible... will consume 650 litres of fuel. At an average of 95 cents (Canadian) per liter for 87 octane, that's $615...
91 octane.. at an average of $1.10 a litre... makes it $715... that's a whole difference of $100. $100 buys a LOT of beer!!!
For you guys with a day or two drive to the bash... maybe it's no biggee... but I've got four days there, and four days back... plus a bunch of other days inbetween where I'll be driving the car.

Well it's good to get a definitive answer on this, but do you know WHY it didn't work? I would have thought it should work, but maybe there's a way around the issue that's causing it not to work?

Wow gas is expensive out there in B.C for you John Lenko, here in calgary i just filled up my tank with 94 octane and it was .95 cents a liter....

Maybe he put the original map sensor back in the car when he removed the s/c?Thats the only way i see the car not running properly with the reflash and no s/c.

Right... but so long as you've still got the 2-bar map sensor, why wouldn't it work? The computer can't know that the blower is physically missing. No boost is no boost.
JL: If you do have it installed, I can't imagine that having the bypass tied open all that time will be good for the spring in it.
You KNOW when you're making boost and when you're not... the bypass is open. When cruising at highway speeds, the bypass will be open and your economy will not be affected.
Especially if you get a boost gauge, you'll see what I'm talking about.
You should be able to run 87 for the trip provided that you stay out of boost.

because the voltage readings and voltage increments are different......
honestly, there is a slim chance that it
might work, but even if it does, do you REALLY wanna find out? just keep it out of boost and use the 87, that could work.....
