Is it necessary to buy a hub spacer, if they are even available, to take the weight on the studs? I haven't actually fitted the rims yet, but the whole on my new 17's looks a lot bigger that the 14's, or the hub on the car...
Sweet jesus, lets just not read that first post, sorry... Let me rephrase:
Is it necessary to buy a hub spacer [if they are even available, if so, where?] to take the weight off of the studs? I haven't actually fitted the rims yet, but the hole on my new 17's looks a lot bigger than the 14's, or the hub on the car...
you mean hub centric rings? if so, yes you need them or else the chance of snapping your studs are great plus you'll get vibrations at higher speeds
Yeah, there's a few names for those things, but hub spacer isn't one of them.
It's a hub-centering ring, hubcentric adapter, hub adapter, etc.
And yes, you need them.
they are called hub-centric rings. i picked up mine from discount tire direct for 20 bucks shipped.
all you gotta know is the size of the centerbore on your new wheels
they have the size of the jbody hub (73mm i believe)

^^^ from what I've seen a lot of aftermartket wheels have a 73mm centerbore. Both my Centerline's and ADR's have a 73 mm centerbore, which is nice because I don't need two sets of hub rings
Man, the money keep racking up on these things...
Does anyone know what size lug nuts to buy for my car? I bought a set of 20 chrome key lock lug nuts from auto zone for like $27 (they were all the same size) and they thread on a few threads and lock up... They better let me return them...
i'd say it depends on the wheel going on the car. i know on my wheels both steelies and my 18's the hub rests snugly inside the wheel. the backs of my 18's are chamfered
i wouldn't put spacers on your hubs if you dont need them, since it will widen the track of your tire and may cause rubbing issues if you're lowered
the wheel studs are M12x1.5

He was never actually talking about spacers. He meant hub adapters. And you should have them too for your 18's.
Im almost sure those ones I bought were m12x1.5, and I even put the key on them and tried to tighten them and they wouldn't start...
I tried several different nuts and studs and they all did the same stuff.
have you taken the wheel off and tried putting them on like that? a lot of times the balance of the wheel makes it hard to get lugs started.
turn the nut counter clockwise to find the threads then try tightening it.. that works sometimes. otherwise i'd say you have some unusual wheel studs there

I ran across some info on this in a post quite a while ago, but I had a heck of a time finding the darn things (never did, actually). I will check out Discount tire as land pirate suggested, tho...
Another question since I've never actually found these: the order in which hub spacers and hub adapters would be used is:
Hub
Spacer
Adapter
Rim
Correct? Or do I have the spacer and adapter in reversed spots?
Thanks.

You can consider the adapter to be a part of the wheel.
I don't recommend using spacers at all. If you insist on using one though, then depending on the spacer you may need a different adapter. If the spacer is flat and has no integrated hub center, then an adapter won't do any good and I definitely wouldn't be using the spacer.
Cool. Thanks, Weasel!

They make hub spacers, which move the tire out away from the car more. It basically evens out the wheel to the fender, so everything is in alignment. Check out the Eibach website for details, they make them for our cars. As for lug nuts, you obviously need tuner lugs, and the obviously have to fit your wheel studs.

A little explanation about hub centric rings from an expert..
First of all the hub rings have nothing to do with the integrity of the studs and will not cause you to brake one.. The concept was that a hubcentric ring would center the wheel to the hub perfectly to reduce vibration . This was a few years ago..What the wheel manufacturers have realised is that the wheels are built lug centric and will tighten up and center where they are designed.. The hub rings now serve no purpose and in a few cases have caused a vibration from not fitting correctly or centering perfectly.. You no longer need these guy's.

o cmon people someone just went against what is generally gospel on these forums. Are we supposed to use hubcentric rings or not?

i had my new rims on for like 20 miles, i took them off cause the tires were crap, when i took them off i snapped a studd off. But to be honest it could have been the new lug nut, it just wouldnt turn and i put alot more effort into turning it than what i should ahve. None the less im now one stud short.
