BREAK INS
Friday, January 20, 2006 11:20 PM
So my 2nd gen. was broken into. Basically the crack addict punched a hole below the doorlock and got it open, right?

This was a year ago, I have a 3rd gen. now. Same thing happens tonight..

My question is, has anyone ever thought of a prevention to this? I mean, the door is thin sheet metal. Has anyone ever re-enforced it from the inside with say, a piece of steel or something welded into place?

I don't know, any ideas? I just would like it to be not THAT easy for some dude to open up my car like it's the door to the local candy store.

And is getting an alarm really going to help?

Suggestions, PLEASE AND THANKS!

I'm sure an alarm would help some, even if someone tried breaking into your car, chances are they'll bail after hearing the alarm. Other than that, shave you handles and locks.

just have the siren for your alarm on hte inside of the vehicle, make it loud enough to be physicaly painful to be inside the car with it on... this will prevent most people from stealing your car or anything in it.

Shave off locks, ok.. but I don't have power locks or anything.

Can you provide me with some details or information?

I'm going to look at alarms in the meantime.

Thats one thing that sucks about our cars. I've locked my keys in my car a few times and all it took for me to get my door unlocked was a flathead to lodge between the window and the door and a clothes hanger to pull the handle back.

You could get an alarm but if someone wants to get into your car bad enough, they will.
Talk about bad luck two cavys broken into the same way, sounds like an inside job to me.

any chance of getting a pic of the damage?

I can see how that would work... punching a hole under the lock.. unless u made it big enough to manually move the keyhole-to-lock link

if you do decide to get an alarm, spend the money and get a nice two-way paging alarm. I live in a not so decent neighborhood, and now everyone in my neighborhood knows that I know when my alarm goes off. I make a point to go outside to check the car too.
the autostart and window controls are nice features as well.

i have 2 alarms inside the car and a siren outside the car +honking horn, plus the club and locking the steering wheel after taking the keys out.

how do you know he was a crack addict? were there left over rocks on the seat?

siren inside the car is a good idea, i had it done for a long time until i updated my alarm, siren wouldn;t fit then. But an alarm is a good idea, as was said, if they wanna get inside bad enough they will, but knowing there is an alarm is usually enough to deter them to someone elses car

I thought about getting the club but all it takes is a hacksaw to saw through the steering wheel to remove the club.

If you get a loud enough alarm to wake you and your neighbors then it will turn away alot of theives when all the lights in your hood start turning on

He kind of stopped as he ran away and said "I don't know if you know this, but I smoke rocks". He wore a toque and a blazer and was African American.

I've got no tinted windows and no stereo mods. That's how I keep people from breaking in. There's nothing to take.

I agree with the two-way paging alarm. It is the only way to go really. I have the Viper VX771 I believe with remote start. Best $500 I spent so far on my car. Good range to for alarm and remote start. The remote will beep at you (within range that is) when your alarm is going or goes off.
