Need some ideas and input

Hey, I just registered and such but I've been browsing this site for a number of months now, just taking in as much information as possible.

At the moment, I'm not making enough money to start work on the exterior and performance of my cavalier, so I'm going to go ahead and get my interior looking and functioning like I want.

I've got a 2002 2.2 Auto Cavalier. I've decided to settle with a red/black theme (cliche, I know) and I'm going to attempt to get you guys to throw some ideas at me. I want my interior to be neat. I know it will be far from unique because there is only so much that you can do that someone else already hasn't. However, this is merely a project for me. I'm just now starting to learn about cars. This is my first car and I'd like to make it last for as long as possible. It's not bad a car. Anyway, moving on. Like I said, I'd just like to have a neat, clean, sharp, and functional interior. I've already painted some of my trim, done a couple of mods on the HVAC(removed the vinyl layer on the knobs) and that's about it. I recently purchased a playstation (original gamers!) and a 7" monitor to mount somewhere in the car, so I'm really open to tech mods and things of the like. Just throw some of your favorite mods that you've done at me and I'll try to get back to you with some pictures ASAP.

Woooo bubbies.

Good luck with it, and don;t be let down that theres a lot of mods that people already have done, it just means that you have to be MORE creative, and do your own thing

Thanks, man. Not to sound boastful, but I like to think I'm pretty crafty and dilligent, so hopefully I can come up with some impressive stuff on my journey to a decent car.

Simple but tasty mod for the stock steering wheel is a Wheelskins]Wheelskins steering wheel wrap. All colors available in two tone, or perforated leather. Jason from APlus is a stand up guy to deal with as well.

My best suggestion is just to look around at what others have done. That is where I get most of my inspiration. On a limited budgets, simply repainting your interior will have a huge visual impact. Just to warn ya, modding your car becomes addicting, and it will cost you a lot of money if you stick with it. Just so much to do and so many things to get. If you really want something unique, start reading around about fiberglassing. If you can learn how to do it, you can make just about anything, including a place to mount your playstation and screen.

I suggest you do charcoal and red rather than black and red.

It probably just didn't occur to you but there's a big difference between black and the stock charcoal the car comes with. You're better off working with what you've got than trying to get rid of all of it or ending up with too many different shades.

Hmm, I've got access to the things needed to fiberglass. I could learn in no time I'm sure.

Yeah, I'm getting sucked into modding my car pretty fast. I find it to be really fun and I've needed a good project/hobby for some time now. So far, I've planned on painting my interior. I've painted most of my trim and I'll more than likely just leave the stock charcoal color as you said and then just match it up with a bright red. I also plan on just replacing my steering wheel. The bag doesn't work anyway (Nice, I know) so it's kind of pointless to leave the stock wheel sticking out like a sore thumb. I'd like to look into reupholstering some of the fabric on my doors. That seems like a good idea thus far. I get paid in a week, so once I get some work finished, I'll post some pictures for you guys to get a better idea of what's going on. I'll try to get some "before" pictures up tomorrow.

Wild Weasel makes a very good point. I am currently go all black on my interior, and it is alot of work to change the color of all the pieces. If you go black and red, then you will have a gray headliner and carpet, plus your seats. Much easier to stick with the stock charcoal and add a color if that is what you want.
