i own a 2001 z22 se and im wondering what the first thing people on here would do to it? Since I'm making payments for the car itself and insurance/registration/inspection, I'm looking for some low-budget ideas on making this car a little meaner...
most start with intake and a muffler. the intake will give you about 5-7 hp. a muffler will do nothing except add some noise that will sound like crap
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
yeah i was thinking about gettin one of the k&n intake kits and maybe a ribbed exhaust with a 3 or 4" chrome tip. I'm also wondering about a performance chip, but someone told me it won't do anything for a stock 2.2l engine.
chips don't work.... intake is a newbie start
i'd go with suspension first.... but it's the money issue again....

There's no such thing as a Z22. Get that out of your head before it gets stuck in there.
Now since you're just starting out, now is the very best time to sit back and decide for yourself what you want to do and how far you want to go with it.
Look around here. Find out what you like. Decide what you want your car to be. Do you want it to be fun to drive? Do you want it to get attention? Are you using it to pick up? Do you want it to be fast?
Once you've got an idea of what you want, make up a plan. Work out a bunch of stages you'll need to go through to get what you want. Plan them out in detail so you don't end up doing things half-assed or completely wrong.
Then start saving and do each stage in it's entirety all at once. If one of the stages is lowering, get your springs and dampers all together and install them at once. If one is a body kit, have the money to paint it before you install it so you can complete the stage all at once.
If you continue to do this, every time you complete a stage you'll have a much improved car and something you'll be proud of.
If you just start buying whatever you can afford and slapping it on, you're gonna end up in a state where half-done or cheaply done mods are ruining your car.
That sounds like it might be a good idea. The last thing i want is a car that looks seriously unprofessional. And as to your comment about there being no such thing as a z22... does GM slap those stickers on cars to make more sales? My car says "Z22 Special Edition" on the back quarter panel, but the only thing special about it is the ground fx and door panel things. Other then that I don't know whats so special about it
... if anyone knows anything about my car theyre welcome to let me know haha.
hey whats up i got an 01 cavy and i put a short ram intake and exhaust on it then my underglow and wing next is my bodykit headers and turbo. i wld got wit exhaust and intake to start off.
^^^ what he said. I drive a z24 myself. it's all for show. But it still looks nice

Z22 was a dealer sticker package to make people thing it's something special. In the pic it doesn't look like you have the rest of the body kit but I honestly don't know what that one was supposed to look like... maybe someone else knows who made it or has other pics of it on a car.

This is actually entirely wrong, but you've got the right idea.
The "24" in "Z24" has nothing to do with the displacement of the engine.
The Z24 was a trim level that GM produced for the Cavalier signifying the performance edition.
The Z22 stickers are put on cars by dealers (they are independantly run and now owned by GM) to dress up the base models and get them to sell quicker or for more money. They do not mean anything whatsoever, though for everyone who thinks it's a legitimate trim level you'll get a different explanation of what they think it means.
The skirt package you have was a dealer installed option. They could have put that on any Cavalier or Sunfire coupe they wanted to. It's a nice option if you like how they look, but has nothing to do with the Z22 stickers.
ok... another question. If I have a partial body kit, can anyone tell me what style it is and if there are front and back pieces to match?
Sorry! ><

This is the only pic i have of my car until i get my camera back... it was taken by the dealership where i bought it.
lol that wasnt supposed to show up twice i forgot i put it in my sig
that looks like the type j kit... only modified alot.
As said above pick what direction you want show, go, or everyday performance.
On that decide how far you want to go if you want a fully built engine/show car or what not.
I set mine up in stages, generally i went exterior first for show, then going into performance stuff as I phase out of exterior. I break things into smaller projects ie i did hood, then wheels, then kit/spoiler.
If you do exterior think about gettin stuff painted all at once as it saves on the cost.

Another reason to have it all painted at once is to avoid differences in paint color. DYE LOTS so to say..... not every paint is mixed exactly the same and you could be using the same color but be a tad lighter or a tad darker.... Not as common in car paint as it is in other paints but it can still happen.
