yup the 3.5 I5 thought eventually it'll get swapped for an LS based motor

I was thinking the SS had an I6 in it? I remember a couple of years ago I was considering getting one, but I was pissed they weren't available with a V engine. I was thinking the base was like a 3 liter I5 and the SS was like a 4.5 liter I6. Of course now the 09 Sport is available with the 5.3.

what SS??? the only SS colorado was a GM concept which had a LS1 only engines are the 2.8, 2.9, 3.5, 3.7, and 5.3

Has it always been called the Sport? I was thinking it was called the SS. As for the newer inline truck engines, I'm not familiar with them at all. I was thinking it was larger than 4 liter, though.

the sport models are the ZQ8s and the xtremes which you could get any engine size of that model year though there are no more xtremes and the 5.3 is only available in the Z71 or ZQ8 package and ext or crew cabs
