Anyone on here own a 4 door Coblat TC..or a tc for that matter.

I've been thinking of something to replace the sunflower when i get the means to do so and have been thinking about the SSTC.

I know their rather fast out of the box and still retain good MPG...which is something the WRX does not have(other car i've been looking at.

Thoughts.....

if your talking about a cobalt ss tc and comparing it to the subaru wrx, they are in completely different classes. thats like comparing a sloth to a cheetah. if i had a choice id go with the wrx, that being said if fuel economy is a major concern then go with the cobalt. if your going for sporty theres probably alot more stuff you can buy for a wrx.

The Cobalt SS is an outstanding car all around, and much applauded as one of the best handling cars you can buy. We offer components to take it from mild to wild. Lots more new stuff in the works too!

Rode in my buddy's SS/TC this weekend for the first time, easily 300+ with his tune and minor bolt-ons (Hahn, funny how that works).

Car handles great (Sportlines only mod) as he pushed it for me a few times, I love the seats, and it has creature comforts mine doesn't have.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up one lightly used right now, but I love my whine and current payment.

Sorry but your post is quite flawed BTW, you're misinformed in many ways.

The WRX, +AWD. I'll give it that. To claim sloth to cheetah, you're full of it. If you'd like I could invite the STi owner in here whom walked up to said friend @ the local meet last night expressing interest in his car after being pulled on by one. Not a Cobalt fan-boy, I'm wide open which made a great conversation with him last night and he left with knowledge on the SS/TC and a better appreciation for it. The same I had for his STi before I had even met him. The aftermarket isn't any further either. At least in offering, price I'm sure it is.

BTW that 300+ HP tune has achieved a constant 38 mpg/hwy.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Turbocharged Cobalt SS (Even from people who usually rape anything GM). Definitely doesn't seem like you'd be disappointed if you got one. I would love to own one.

i knew a guy with an 04 wrx with just aftermarket exhaust and it would eat cobalt ss's for lunch. in fact he stomped my friends ss. and riding in it and feeling the g forces it exerted on me when he launched and ran it through the gears was even more severe than riding in my friends dads 99 corvette. that being said i like the cobalt ss but from experiencing first hand the wrx launches hard and runs strong and i was amazed by it. like i said the one i rode in id be almost certain it would have walked all over a vette even.

you sure youre not talking about a stock ss supercharged or even just the 2.4 ss? The 04 wrx would need more than a catback or even full turbo back to keep up with the ss turbocharged, it would need at least some kind of engine management like cobb acessport, vishnu or turbo xs utec to name a few in addition to some bolt ons. from a dig a stock wrx would get the jump if launched properly on the ss cobalt turbo and supercharged and would get the jump on the a 99 corvette but it would not hold that lead unless the drivers of the other cars were just plain terrible. the wrx only dynos 180 - 200whp stock +10 to 15 for a full turbo back, a cobb stage 2(turbo back, ecu flash and panel filter or cobb intake) would put down 215- 230awhp depending on mods, around 240 with a protune on the td04 without meth. to put things into perspective a cobb stage 2 wrx will beat a stock sti, if both were an 04, been there done that.

having driven a 16g wrx putting down 300whp and the stock cobalt ss/tc. i would say the choice would come down to you. the cobalt has very smooth power delivery you dont have to wait for boost like in the wrx. both are very quiet and comfy interiors i would say about the same but theres absolutely no squeaks or rattles in the wrx even after 100k km. looks are a preference thing cant help what you like, the motors are both very easy to get power out of, i would give the edge though to the ss/tc. depending on the model year the transmission can take only so much more power around 350whp is the limit for a 2001-2005 wrx transmission and around 400whp for the engine. but depending on what youre looking for it may be enough. i dont think you can go wrong with either choice here, both are very good cars and a lot of fun to drive.

My buddies 03 wrx with a cobb access port, and full turbo back gets walked on by my brothers stock 09 SS TC balt. The 09 WRX is a different story.

I @!#$ that up completely..... I meant to say...brothers 09 walked on 03 wrx, but get his ass handed to him against a stock 09 wrx.

You and I both live in PA where we get a good amount of snow. Why get a SS/TC that you can only have fun in on nice days? I'd rather get a WRX and have fun year round. A WRX is going to be my next car once my cav is paid off.

Wow PCSR...you really need to know what you're talking about before you start talking.. Seriously. A WRX has got nothing on a SS/TC. Hell, the STi isn't even that impressive in comparisson.

And before you start saying crap like I dont know what im talking about and im an idiot, keep in mind i've driven just about every car imaginable. With the exception of a CCX and a Pagani Zonda. I drive cars for a living...

All in all, SS/TC=Amazingnessness! The amount of performance you get for the money is absolutely stunning.

I love both cars, definitely not a bad choice either way. Personally, I love the WRX. Very practical, yet fast and fun. Plus the exhaust note is pure sex. Definitely not knocking the SS though because the new TC is pure badass. If I had the money, I'd pay extra and go the Subie route, but the SS/TC is easily the best bang for your buck. Even a Mazdaspeed3. Same power, yet in a lovely hatchback form. Either way, you definitely have plenty of opportunities and a plentiful aftermarket to make a fast, fun, and economical toy.

I love the WRX..and the only one i would buy is the STi...6 speed, more power and the DCCD.I do get a bit of snow here in PA,but i can get a 4wd truck around here for 500-1000 no problem and drive it on the @!#$ty days. Then either sell it for the same amount or just keep it till it dies.

I know i'm not going to be able to buy either car for at least a year yet,but i'm doing research now.

While the sti has awd and more hp out of the box..it lacks MPG,which is something i'd like to have.I love being able to pick up and drive 2 hours to go have a good time at a friends college, house, run to the beach. While have the rex would be nice,24 and under on the MPG isnt so nice.

I read that someone is making over 300hp and getting 38 mpg, thats insane, i need details.

And before you guys start saying which is better overall, take into account that while yes i'll be running it at the track from time to time and enjoying some spirited driving,it's not going to be an all out race machine.

Just a nice DD that get good MPG,and will see some light mods to keep me happy.

Thanks

Only you can really answer this. What it all boils down to in the end is, how important is AWD to you. I was debating on a new balt ss/tc or a used evo. I bought the used evo because I really wanted the AWD.

A good boosted AWD launch makes anything feel fast. I can 2 step the Talon and that feeling is nuts...

Yet a Cobalt SS TC with boltons and a tune would possibly beat it.

Wrong wheel drive just can't launch like AWD

Oh and MPG's. Hello direct injection

OK, first of all there might be a total of 5-6 days a year where theres more than a dusting of snow in PA. Don't tell me I'm wrong, I've lived here for 28 years.

Why do you buy a car based on what it does better for 6 days of the year, I'd rather buy the one thats better for the other 360 days. Most FWD cars that dont sit too low are just fine with snow tires like tanks. AWD isnt needed, we don't live in Alaska.

As stated stock for stock a WRX is far slower, more expensive, and worse on gas, I fail to see the benefit. Now if you want to go throwing an STI into the mix thats almost 15k more, if driving in the snow is that important to you buy an SS and then get a jeep for 2-3k, problem solved, your still saving over 10k.

TInkles - You would prob still get beat even with a WRX to Phil's NA cav.

I've been around a heavily modded '05 WRX, wouldn't take much for an SS/TC to catch up the the #'s he was pushing. As I said, this was an STi owner whom had approached my SS/TC friend.

As stated, not a fan-boy, but if there's one GM car that has earned merit from imports it would be the SS/TC.
