This is the rumor C&D is spreading.
Quote:
News flash: Hyundai’s 5.0-liter V-8 makes 429 horsepower. In your face, Mustang! Okay, nobody from Hyundai actually said that about Ford or its iconic pony car. In fact, Hyundai’s figure isn’t even a certainty. It’s an unofficial estimate given to me (and the rest of the media assembled in South Korea to drive the Sonata hybrid and 2.0T) by an engineer at the company’s R&D center.
Hyundai America won’t give us an official comment, but here’s the data I gleaned during Hyundai’s powertrain development tour. The 5.0-liter Tau engine is essentially a bored-out, direct-injection version of the 4.6-liter V-8 currently found in the Genesis sedan. Bore increases to 96 mm, an increase of 4, while stroke stays the same at 87 mm. Output figures, and remember that these are estimates, are 429 hp at 6500 rpm and 376 lb-ft at 5000 rpm with an 11.5:1 compression ratio. That not only beats the Mustang GT, which gets 412 horses from its rowdy 5.0-liter V-8, it’s a kick in the teeth to Infiniti’s 420-hp 5.6-liter. The current 4.6-liter Tau makes 375 hp and 333 lb-ft.
The newest Tau will come mated to an eight-speed automatic designed and manufactured by Hyundai. The transmission is itself an impressive feat; Toyota and ZF are the only other companies to put so many ratios in one bell housing. Again there’s no official confirmation from Hyundai, but the 5.0-liter GDI (that stands for Gasoline Direct Injection) could arrive on our shores in the Genesis sometime in mid-2011. It’s also safe to assume that it will eventually make its way under the hood of the upcoming Equus.
Story.

Eight speed transmissions? They should of worked up some sort of CVT trans on that 420 hp bad boy instead. That would of been pretty insane.
This I wouldnt mind seeing them actually do.

I think bigfoot is blurry,
that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra
scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster, roaming the countryside.

Read about that guy that put 90,000 miles on a lambo now the motor is cooked? I know of a guy on the GTA Trans AM forums that got 305,000 miles out of an old TPI motor

Are you forgetting the fact that there are junkyards FILLED with spare parts for old TPI's?
And there are not junkyards filled with old lamborghini motors to be picked for parts?
Apples and oranges.....But I wouldn't expect you to know this.
:Edit:
I would also have to say that there was some sort of operator negligence playing a part in that motor blowing at 90k.

funny but you'd drive a turbo 4 banger from Sweden, in a car that originated from the European market. All dumbed down for Americans.

i highly doubt the lambo owner even cared about maintenance lol. hell if it blows buy a new one. one 300k v8 wow. plenty of motors American or not have gone way over 300k.
8 speed auto...sounds like Hyundai would be trying to copy the likes of Mercedes-Benz and other luxury name plates. While this car would have more power I bet it would cost more than the cars it's meant to compete against, which could hurt sales if it ever became a reality.
