I am most likely going 2 replace my driver side rear quarter panel on my 02 cavalier. I dont think the rear quarters changed from the the 95-99's to the 00-02's. Anybody know if these are the same?
they are the same, but it's a huge amount of work to swap them. they are welded on in quite a few places, so the donor quarter panel and your panel will have to be cut off, then rewelded back in place. it's not an easy thing to do.
they are the same and it is a big job.. you could possiably put a widebody on your car and hide the damage.
how bad is it? id say pound it out enough then make sure the widbody fits well and dosnt sink or sage in parts and mold it....ur much better off doin a widebody then replacing that whole tings...theres sooo many spot welds and that @!#$s gotta be lined up so perfect....well if i was having it done anyways, im a perfectionist, so yeah id go with the widebody....good call winks!
yeah i remember reading its something like a 130 spot welds. Ive also read their is a possibility it might be able 2 be taken off, put on a frame rack pulled, and then panel bonded. Im not to sure whats possible, would it help if i posted some pics?
that should just buff out. i say get on the inside and beet it out as much as possible. i had a dent similar to that and i just worked on it for like 3 hours with a hammer and a metal rod. got it almost back to the normal shape then used filler to reshape it for the final touch. it looks perfect and you cant even tell it was ever a dent.....other than the primer. haha. the curve at the bottum is the hardest part. otherwise i say it would be easier to just cut part of the quarter off and reweld a new piece in. and not the entire panel
good luck in what you decide to do
peace
honestly, your best bet would be to take your car to a few body shops in your area and find out straight from them what it would require to fix and how much it will cost.
i would say that you find a shop that is really good with body hammers
i would guess bang it out as much as you can and use body filler to smooth it out. but i could be wrong.
The whole thing can probably be panel bonded on. I believe most of mine was since they didn't want to take the time to gut the car and didn't want to risk getting sparks on the leather. It's still a huge job though.

what all is involved in panel bonding?

I think it's just a fancy term for gluing it on instead of welding it.
I'm sure they use some fancy super glue for it and then just clamp everything together to let it set.
Don't quote me on that though. I really don't know for sure.
seeing as how your in West Carrollton (I'm in dayton) my dad owns a body shop in New Lebanon and your easiest bet it to have it hammered out my dad does it all the time. I could ask him how much later tonight when I stop by the shop.
