every car has a code number for paint ford,gm,honda, no not the vin number. on a cav it's on that cardboard cover where the spare tire is. it a sticker write down everything and take it to a autobody supply store (yellow pages) ask them if they can make it for you white is a base color and black. i find it hard to swallow $700 for white even with mets and pearls! maybe dealer cost to you but i can go to walmart and get a white gallon of car paint for $60 cheapest! ppg,ici water colors, dupont, mid range $250. house of color high end stuff $500 thats all in u.s. funds..

What kinda crack are you/they smoking?? $700 a gallon??? If that's what they're quoting you then they're totally ripping you off. I got quoted just under $700 for X-otic metallic base, candee color, clear, all reducers and catalysts, etc to do my car (not giving out details as that would ruin what I'll be doing whenever I get around to it.)

Yes cars have paint codes. WHITE itself is not just a "white base". Most if not all whites actually are tinted (can't tell) with reds, greens, blues, etc... so all whites are going to cost different and have different tints to them. Black is black unless otherwise specified by the paint code, but white is not white. Have yet to see a Wal-Mart that carries actual automotive grade/body shop grade paints... house paints yeah, car paint no. $60 a gallon of car paint?? Don't think so. Even the cheapest of automotive paints I've seen (and I am an auto body tech) is $38/qt of black paint. Plus, you need the proper amount of reducer, clear, etc. Not to sound like a biotch, but if you don't know FOR REAL what you're talking about, or unless you're an
experienced auto body tech/painter, please don't give out false information to peoples who are wanting to learn something the proper way. Thank you, and have a stoooooopendous day.
Sorry I'm in a bad mood tonight...
well in Canada walmart carrys auto paint and thats the price without hardener thinner etc same as Canadian tire feel free to ask and one that up here and the "other prices" are from the"OFFICE MANAGER" but ya what do they know other then answering the phone and asking other people whats going on maybe the prices were the wrong ones that were told to her sorry if my typing is bad but i work in the back of the shop and typing isn't my fort-ha white is mixed but once again there someone that has too come from behind and sniff a little tooooo far and I'm sure its not going to be the last if the guys going to learn he's going look around and price it out your best bet is to go to a body shop and get a free est,

LOL... Don't get pricing on paint from Canadian Tire. I work at one part time(sorry... now you all must hate me) and we tell people BS prices on paint. It's SOOO hard to order, and there is no price listed in the computer. Unless they looked it up in the blue MotorMaster book, and called in the paint number to keystone or depo, they lied. Plus the supplier doesn't carry alot of colours. Better bet would be Napa. Unless you just want a spray bomb.

2 suggestions then.....
1) through a period in between sentences (in case you have trouble finding it, it's 2 keys to the right from the "M")
--or--
2) start a new paragraph in between "sentences" so that it makes it easier to read.
your post took me a couple minutes to actually understand what it was you were trying to say and I'm sure I'm not the only one that has trouble reading runon sentences that is the reason there is something called a period that way there is a break in thoughts
Punctuation is your friend
Man that sucks. In the US the only places to get auto paint are auto body supply stores,... Napa from what I understand doesn't even really carry auto paint... it MIGHT... but either way as far as the US goes, I wouldn't trust them.
I get all my paint from "DuPont certified" stores (brain isn't totally working today)... I'm a DuPont gal, don't really like PPG as much.
My personal paint preferences are DuPont and X-otic.
/\ /\ /\ What she said. When I bought my Viper Blue paint for my Firebird it was like
$ 70 something for the paint another $ 50 whatever for the reducer and like $ 20 or so for the flex agent. I did all the body work and a friend of mine let me use his booth and equipment. Whloe price tag start to finish was around $500.00 and it looked great.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

I called 4 local NAPA's today just to double check that, none of them even had non-spraycan paint in their inventory database....

OK, that makes sense... Canada... Unfortunately, here in the states, NAPA don't sell it. Nor does WalMart, unless you are in the market for Glidden Latex...
Also, it's incredibly difficult to get an EXACT match, not saying it's impossible, but difficult either way. If you're not spraying the WHOLE car, it's best to blend whatever you're spraying into the adjacent panels... to be on the safe side.
Scanners only get you the CLOSEST stock tint of whatever color available, not every tint in the paint down to a T.
Hypothetically speaking, if your car is red, and 10 years old... odds are it's faded a bit since new... so even if you get the EXACT STOCK paint, it's not going to match due to fading. Maybe the closest red to your stock red would be a Honda red... it's possible...
Whites are a biotch to spray IMHO.
correct
white is a pain in the ass to paint so are gold and champaign colors
always always blend the next panle to achevie color match
