Streetfire front causing overheating?
Tuesday, May 23, 2006 7:20 PM
Well this past weekend as some of you know i got my bodykit on. problem is the car was/is having an overheating problem. we think we fixed it by removing a black piece that deflected the air away from the radiator but it still heats up over half sometimes. it heats up fast and takes a hell of alot longer to cool off like it used to. and i'm just wondering if there is something else i can do to keep it from doing this.

any tips i can do to keep it running a little bit cooler?

I hope you're not talking about that black piece that's under the car. It deflects air upwards to the radiator to keep it cool. I doubt the streetfire front would cause your car to overheat, it's more open than any stock bumper I've seen.

Actually, you're not the first to post about this. I believe it's a known issue with that bumper, though I don't know why.

Hopefully someone that has it will have some input.

yea that piece actually bring air up to the rad.

if the needle never gets to the red then i wouldnt worry about it. most js tend to run hot, especially when sitting in traffic the needle really climbs but if it stays out of the red then i wouldnt worry too much about it

As mentioned above you NEED that black plastic part as its what causes the air to go tru the rad as opposed to just flow under the car. Put it back!

As for cooler you can do the dual fan conversion or try a coolant additive sometimes they work well. Or lastly how old is the thermostat in the car? You could always go with a 180 or 160 instead of the factory 195 your car came with.

Hope this helps you.

id say go with a fan if its running really hot. since my streetfire kit was put on ive known it to run 10-20 deg hotter but noting worse then that, i also dont live in an extremely hot area though, indianapolis here.

well we took that black piece off and it doesnt get hot anymore, weird?

i'm going to try putting some of the water wetter additive in and see what it does, it says it's supposed to make it run 20 degrees cooler
