Its sort of retroactive. If the person you sent a message to, since PMs have existed (October 2003), still has the message either in their inbox or trash, it shows up in your sent folder. If they deleted it completely, however, it is gone. From this point on it will function correctly, even if the person you sent a message to deletes it, it remains in your sent folder.

only problem was i think i lost a whole of bunch of old pm's. seems anything older than 2006 got axed.
