I just got a 2000 Cavalier Z24. My 2005 Blazer has been too wallet draining.
The car has 147,000kms (91,000miles). What should be done with it maintenance wise?
Heres the list I came up with, I'm just wondering if there's anything LD9 specific that I'm missing.. because this is the first J-body I've owned with a LD9. Its got a lot more power than the 2.2L ones.
Oil Change
Plugs
Wires
Transmission filter and fluid
Brakes all around
New Belt
Muffler strap
It does shift a bit funky from 1>2. Its not really rough and it doesn't bang when it goes in gear, its just slow... I'm hoping its the transmission fluid.
Overall I do love the car and I've always wanted a Z24, now I got one.
water pump and timing chain.
I <3 JGM
I think bigfoot is blurry,
that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra
scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster, roaming the countryside.

^^^Expensive and time consuming job I hear.
Not that bad price wise but a pita if the engines in the car, mines being done with it out so simple for me

Well bad pricewise if youre paying someone to do it.
I got a 2001 Z24 with 165k - don't bother doing the water pump and timing unless it's leaking, the newer LD9 had a better design and last long.
In terms of the other items on your list, leave out the muffler strap unless it's rusted out and on it's last limbs. Word of advice do not buy aftermarket, the quality of it sucks and it doesn't last long. The ironic part about it is that it's made in Canada and doesn't last 2 winters. In comparison, the original factory lasted 5 years for me.
Brakes - check for wear if the car needs them put them on
Wires - no wires on the LD9
Belt - my belt is the original GM belt and it still looks good, according to GM it's lifetime.
I didn't think they had wires although my buddy at the parts place said you can replace the wires and not the coil on plug thing.. I think thats what he said..
The muffler currently is held up with bailing wire. LOL. Dad ordered me a muffler strap but it was the wrong one... I am going to put the right one on tomorrow.. It came in..
It was $15... if it lasts a lil while I'm okay with it.. I'm going to do an exhaust on it when I find a muffler I like..
The brakes are warped and the front rotors are scored up and stuff..
I would like to get a good set of brakes for it..
I hope the trans isn't shot. I read online that you have to level up the car and pull a plug to check the trans fluid... I may get my neighbor who does trans's to change the filter cause he has a hoist.
Overall I'm very pleased with this Cavy. I'm glad I got the Z24.. Nice to have a different engine for a change..
My neighbor at the end of my street has a 99 Z24 with 340,000 kilometers.. (211,000 miles) and he drives it all over the place.
I'm going to try my best to keep this car in good shape I want it to last. I've always liked em.
Rod bearings or wheel bearings?
^wheel, one of mine went at 150k , if it's not making any noise don't bother with it, they are about 100$ a piece.
Ah feew. I'm not sure if they are or not. My dad's a mechanic, I'm still learning.
Cavalier is throwing a P1137 code now..
"Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Bank 1 Sensor 2 Lean System or Low Voltage"
My dads scanner has live data, whats considered out of range on the voltage for the O2?
I think my 2.4 is going to need a timing chain. It wasn't like this when I got it.
I put about 2000km on it since I got it.
Heres a video.. you should be able to hear it.
Click this thing below.
I would suggest doing a cooling system flush, new hoses, thermostat, and radiator cap (unless it just has a cap on the resevoir).I would also suggest flushing the old brake fluid out (if dirty black colored, basically if it is not clear) change it.Since the mileage is not bad,I would do these items as a preventive.
