Back in December I found an ad in the paper for an insurance company "CityWide Insurance Brokers". Basically this company is a scam, they give you a decent rate, make you send them a deposit, then disappear.
Basically this company puts new ads every 2 or so weeks with a different "Fake Company Name"
They stole 900from me
,,,, I went to the cops with all of the information I currently have on the fake company and they wont do anything about it. I even showed the cops the different papers they place the ads in, and how they change there name and numbers all the time. Cops just laugh and say too bad you got scammed.
WTF Can I do. I found another person that almost fell for this crap.
If cops wont do anything about it who the @!#$ will?
Thanks,

Have you pointed this out to the papers carrying the ads? I don't know if they can do anything but they should be made aware of it.
So you sent them the payment through the mail? I am not sure about our laws but there might be mail fraud involved.

Unfortunately, it is a common thing these days.
You might want to have a lawyer call the police. They might have a different tune.

That's messed up. What the hell are cops doing these days???
Don't they have cops to shut this sort of crap down or are they all just walking the beat and getting shot at?
I sent a wiretransfer,
As for the newspapers, they are in at least 6 papers. Ranging from Niagara, Ottawa, and Sudbury.
Its really sad that our cops just laugh at this crap. Honestly thats all they did...

Did you speak with your bank?
Always purchase using Credit Cards... not debit / transfers / money orders / cheques and definately never cash.
Are you sure the cops said they can do nothing ? I am sure any law enforcement agency would be more then willing to make an easy bust like that one.

I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
what about all those business warning sites/companies.. like the BBB..
also i agree you should contact the papers. they may be able to help the cops find these ppl... they have to get payment for the ads from somewhere... im sure it would be easy to catch them... or at a minimum stop the papers from posting their ads.
and sorry to hear about it... but come on... an insurance company thay takes wire transfers? i dont know if thats something i just havent seen... but thats a big red flag with me... transfers are key for those scam artists..
***Thanks again to stargrrrl***
The papers wont listen to me when I call them, they said only the cops can ask to have the ads removed.
As for the wire transfer, some company's actually ask for wire transfer if an immediate payment is required.

Ask to speak with the sargeant, and if he still gives you the cold shoulder, talk to the police chief. And if he gives you the cold shoulder, contact a newspaper.

First: you need to call their FRAUD DEPT.
If you ask them specifically for the Frauds/Credit Card/Scams deptartment, I'll be you'll have better luck.
If worst comes to worst, Go to the OPP's Fraud Deptartment. There may also be a case with the RCMP, but I can't Guarentee anything:
