i have 38k miles on my car
and when i get on it the rear end sags quite a bit
i think they are about gone but im not sure
My 2002 cavalier has 31000 miles, and sometimes they squeek when i get in the car. My opinion, is that stock oem struts and shocks are worthless, and not meant to last more than 30,000k miles. I might be wrong, just an observation.
Bad shocks won't cause the rear to sag. Bad springs will do that.
Is it different from when it was new?
well its doesnt sag when its parked
its when i floor it
im pretty sure its different
thats one of those things that changes so slowly i dont know
stock shock suck. My friend change to Koni and ground control at about 15K and the shocks were already gone.

had the same problem..although i have a '97 with 180,000km's..but either way it was the rear top strut mounts, the center metal sleeve siezed its self to the strut shaft and broke free from the rubber bushing in the mount causing it to move freely. with the car stationary it looked perfect even if you bounced the car. but when you braked, took off hard the rear would drop, or in corners the rear would bounce outta control
it doesnt bounce out of control but when i take off the rear drops

Not necessarily correct...?
When I replaced the rear shocks and mounts in my g/f's 97 Sunfire SE coupe, the rear did rise up a noticeable amount. They were stockers with about 100K on them. New shocks were from NAPA if that makes a difference.
When I replaced struts and shocks on my non-j-body, the height did increase. I noticed it in the back for sure. Before, the rear tires were tucked in the wheelwells. Afterwards, I could see the top of the tire. They were stockers with over 100K on them. New shocks were KYB.
