Ok...this is really stupid on my part but me and my buddy were changing my brakes...I wanted to get it done quick so we jacked up the car and started working. We both made good progress at first but as soon as I got the shoes off I heard him say oh s**t. He had stripped the bottom bolt that holds down the brakes so now I cannot get off the caliper. I dont want to take it to a mechanic because I like to do all the work myself plus its cheaper. I kinda think this would be an expensive fix too. If anyone has any info or tips to fix this I would really appreciate it. I wanna have this fixed by 10/5/05. Thanks in advance. Rob.
So what now? Instead of an allen socket you've got a round hole there?
You're gonna need an extractor of some sort. Did he get it out at least a little bit before stripping it? Can you grab it with some vicegrips or something?
Craftsman has a socket set that can be used to grab stripped bolt heads. You may want to give those a try; they have worked well for me in the past.
hit your friend in the head. If worst comes to worst pic up a pair of used calipars. Hell i think i saw a brake kit w/ rotors, pads, and new calipars for like $50 on ebay
2006 Cobalt SS 2.4L 9.6 @74mph 1/8th mile w/2.28 60ft
First, how the hell do you strip it? I've changed a hundred brakes and never stripped a single one.
Second, Do like Zach said, Craftsman extractors.... model #52152 good luck.
I think I will try the craftsman set...I was so pissed...I think he used the wrong socket but he swears it was the right size. I figured I would have to wedl something on it to get it out. Does anyone know if there is a tool for this besides the craftsmen wrenches?
Vice Grips work too.

If you can grab it with them. It's probably still too far in to grab.
It's a 3/8 allen wrench, it is not a metric size.
Thanks, I got it out and bought a kit to replace it. Since the kit came with 2 bolts I just replaced them both...Also they were so much easier to turn I think I am going to buy another kit for the other side. Thanks again for all your help.
