How much to get short shifter installed?
Wednesday, March 15, 2006 7:40 PM
I have an 03 cavalier and I just recently purchased a short shifter. I don't really feel like putting it in myself just in case I mess something up so I was just wondering what a garage charges to do it for you. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thx

its kinda hard to mess up..

I'm sure if you look you can even find detailed instructions..

But to have a shop do it I'd say probably between 100 or 200 dollars

I did mine myself and I've never worked on a car before. Everything seems fine, though it feels a little harder to get into gear. But the cables are just about exactly the same as they were on the old one so I'm thinking it might just be the extra fabric from the old boot. That and I'm going to try letting the cable out another mm when it's warm enough outside.

It took me 4 hours and $70.xx (couldn't put the grommet back on the cable so i got a trans. shop to fix it for me...took less than an hour for them to fix it) but now it shifts beautifully, better than stock for sure. That's not bad seeing how i only paid $65.00 for one of those cheap ebay kits!

its the first real mod i ever did on my car, all you need is a little muscle to get the cables unhooked and then re hooked at the end, but in total it took me like an hour of work. this includes the run to the hardware store to get a cutting wheel for the dremel i have. totally not worth spending money for installation, unless youve got it to blow.

took me about 4 hours or so on my 98 'Fire GT, it was a cold day, and never doing anything like that before, works great. Had to take it back out after the intial install because i didnt take enough material out of the housing for first gear, but since fixing it immediately after that, its been a great thing to have.
