I own a 2000 cavalier z24. I am currently adding some color to my interior but am not sure how to get some parts off without breaking the plastic panels. I was recently trying to remove the door handle plastic surrounding and had difficulties removing the pieces on both doors. Can you give me advice on how to remove those pieces and what other parts of my interior should I paint red besides the console which is already done?
This is all opinion. Most people paint every other thing. So you have kind of a two tone going on. As for the door I would say take of the panels. Heat it up with a hair dryer on low. Try to give it a light tug. You dont want to break it. Im pretty sure that part is just held on with some adhesive.
The door handle surround is integrated into the door panel itself. Take the door panel off and see what you can do with it...

I just had to quote it again.
Don't do it.
Looks good at first, then it chips/flakes, then fades, then you try to touch it up that doesn't work as well as you thought. But "you" can do it better than everyone else but then again it happens it chips/flakes etc... But hey you can do it.

mmmk. i get the picture. Thanks for your suggestions though.
I suggest Bulldogging it after you prep the surface. the 00 and up had molded door panels (all plastic) i found that out when I did mine my 99 the upper part was the soft vinyl like the dash, the door I replaced had the molded panel and it was a pain in the @$$ to prep Then I bull dogged everything. So I would suggest proper prep and make sure you get into every crack and seam with scotchbrite if it wasn't preped it won't stick. and Wipe everything down before you start the final stages. I used denatured alcohol not as harsh on plastics. And yes as sndsgood stated use a HVLP gun better results and more durable.
