I finally finished hard wiring my Passport X8500 and I created a custom IN dash mute button. Check out the pictures.

not the cleanest looking but functional i guess.

I personally would have put it on either side of the steering column

i have a switch on the left side and my cig. lighter. I am working on cleaning up the hole and either fiberglassing it in or something. Anyone got any ideas?

Yeah I would mold it into the dash....It would look better that way..
