Help me out?
Wednesday, March 22, 2006 5:23 PM
Im trying to decide between a Saturn SC2 and a Cavi Z24. I love the look of the Z24 but the int of the saturn seems loads better from what ive read on here. The SC2 burns oil, but ive herd the Z24 has water pump problems. Im so confused. Other problem im finding is there are no SC2's for sale here in my price range right now. Does this Cavi seem like a good deal, or too good to be true? Think 3500 would be fair? Thanks

the whole water pump thing on 2.4's is blown way out of proportion (sp)
every water pump on any engine eventually goes bad. some go bad faster than others. my Z24 has over 105000 miles still have the original water pump. and my moms cav with the 2.4 has just over 90,000. still original water pump.

anyways, thats a decent price. id get it

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

Agreed.

If it was that bad, you wouldn't see people with 2.4s

i dont think its the waterpump thing that gets out of proportion. sure everycar goes bad but on ever car its not a $1000 bill to get fixed. Alot of cars its 10x easier then a Z24 engine all in all id pick tbhe z24 does this cavy seem like a good deal??
how about
what year it is
mileage
overall condition
how many owners.. etc..

it should have between 50-70k and maybe a 97-99 for that price?

Did you read the listing? Its a 98, with 119k that appears to be in perfect condition, as for owners i will do a carfax after i test drive it. Lower miles would be nice, but finding a lower mile, good condition z24, in my price range is hard. 119k it should still have life left right? Thanks guys

yea its not the water pump itself thats a problem, its going about replacing it when its time. its a pita and if you let a shop do it, you get raped

I don't think the water pump issues are blown out of proportion at all. It was definitely a problem and not a cheap one to fix.

I believe the ongoing issue was solved in 99 so the newer cars no longer have this problem.

If it's a 98 though and has never had it changed, just keep in mind that it will likely need to be done.

It's the labour that's expensive so if you're handy and can do it yourself, you'll just need to set aside a day for it.

So would you rather get a Saturn SC2 and be orginal. Or get a z24 and look cool, just have a 1k repair bill comming in your mind?

I really like Red z24 with like 5% windows.

I know everyone and their borther has a cavi, but after i bought my grand am, like 4 others went and got the same one. I think a coupe with a 5 speed would be fun. Since im poor and have to have a gm vehical, that pretty much limits me to saturn/jbody.
