Warning for Tire Newbies

I really want to warn the newbies about something i got EFFed on. If you have high performance tires, and their "directional rotation" make sure that if you get them rotated by a shop, or put on at some point by a shop, that the tread is pointing the right direction. I didn't and a shop put them on backwards, even though my Kuhmo's even had a little thing on the tire that said rotatation --->. This ate my 712's in under 1000 miles with no burnouts and 2 seasons. With spring time here, and people getting their summer wheels on, i would let the newbs learn from my mistake and save themselves $400+ on new tires so you can pass inspection.

you can rotate your tires yourself, for free. don't pay a shop to do it.

you should do one side at a time. if you mess up on rotatating tires you have some problems.

he's not talking about screwing it up himself - he's talking about a shop screwing it up.

you could rotate your tires yourself either way even if it is free from a shop its usually not worth the wait.

if they put them on backwards then looks like you can get some new tires for free if you try

I wonder what kind of idiot did that...
One always rotates from front to back... Not side to side.

And honestly, you should only need to rotate your tires every other oil change or so.
It's kind of a waste to do it any sooner.
If you're seeing wear on your tires after 6,000 miles, you've got other problems.
Either the tires weren't balanced properly, you bought some cheap ass tires or you've had your suspension knocked out of allignment(stop driving over those railroad crossings so fast!).

common sense is something many of us don't need pointed out to us. pay more attention to your car when you get it back, and you won't have to worry about things like this in the future.

your owners manual actually shows you how to rotate them.

thats for normal street tires. he is talking about tires that need to be put in a certain direction in order to get maximum performance out of them.

Or you can have a car with two totally different sizes front and rear, and there will be no problem!

Not true. If you don't have directional tires... and most regular people don't... then the rotation pattern is both front to back and side to side. Check your manual for the details.

That said... there are plenty of people out there that have no idea that some tires can only turn one way. Surely there's plenty of those people who are noobs at shops doing menial jobs like rotating tires. Other people in the shop probably thought like you do, that every idiot knows what way the tires should turn, and didn't bother to teach him.

Then stuff like this happens.

Don't let it get to you, bro. This is EXACTLY the sort of thing that should be posted in the newbies forum and people are idiots for shooting you down for it.
