I previously had an 04 sunfire.......when i went to get it tinted at a shop the top of the back window has dots that the tint does not stick to......
I just traded in my 04 for an 05 and i dont want the same thing to happen again. Does anyone know how this could be prevented? is it possible to get the tint to stick to those dots? or maybe how to remove them??
The guy at the tint shop said that every car that gets tinted and has a windows with those dots has the same problem. I found it hard to believe until i got on the road and started noticing many cars with the tint not sticking to the dots.......any suggestions will help, thank you in advance

A lot of placest cut the tint under the dots and lay a strip of black vinyl over the dots. I'm going to have the shop do this with mine when I get it re-tinted.

When I got mine done, I had the tint cut right below the dots, and a piece of black vinyl stuck on the inside, cant tell the difference from the inside, nor the outside..

Even the best have issues with this stuff. The good places will have solutions though, like the glue or the vinyl. The ones that just do their best to stick it aren't the best because it simply doesn't work. Some are better than others, but it's always a gamble regardless of how talented the tinter is.
The best job I've ever seen was tinted up to just below the dots and then painted with a flat black paint over the dots. Looked perfect.

I got my done the same way as larry's and it looks really good (Black vinyl)

and you say it couldn't be done.....
the shop i used to work at in cali has always done a awsome job with the dot matrix at the top of the window
if anyone ever had a problem either we(they) didnt do the job , or the tint was on the car over 5 years
ive had both of my cavs done there , as well as the g/fs cav , all my friends and familys cars also
its all in the prep work , and most shops are in to much of a hurry to get cars in and out , i can tell you they use a scotch brite pad to scuff the dot matrix area (green pad if i remember)
alot of the shops here in phoenix get alot of dust in the windows cause they do not prep right

the place in sacramento cali, tinted the whole window first, and then they cut off the piece that is over the dot matrix. then they paint over the dot matrix. i looks so nice and clean. they are known for this method and have a great reputation. plus its garrenteed for life. good luck.
i might need some black vinyl... how much u lookin for it?
I have my dots painted from the inside. Tint cut just below the dots then sprayed flat black over the dots. Cant even tell the difference where the tint starts or stops. Ya you loose a little window on the inside but you only notice for like an hour or so of driving. I'll see if I can find my pics of my tint.

J
My tint on the back window was done 3 weeks after I got the car in 1999 and was done one peace all the way up over the dot matrix and still looks great with no problems.. the tint shop also used a white scrub pad before they put the tint on ..and the tint they used was the top of the line chrome tint .not just some cheap stuff .. good luck I hope it works out for you
If you tint over them, you can't see squat through that area anyway so you're not actually losing anything with this method.

This guy tinted my g/f's 03 Civic. One piece back window, right over the dot matrix, no problem.

the vinyl idea i think sounds the best and most reversable.......if you can get me some www.WinksOnline.com my email is acer1985_00@yahoo.com, i'll buy it off of you and tell the tint guys to put that on first........do they tint over it? or stop right below it?
thanks for all your help guys, you have great ideas

I've been wondering about this for a while. I was sitting in my car at a red light the other day, and was glaring at those stupid dots because I plan on getting tint done soon, and I know those little bastards are a problem. And then I started thinking about how people say they get it painted or a piece of vinyl to cover the dots. My question is, is the vinyl somewhat transparent? Because otherwise, it would block off a pretty big chunk of visibility out of the rear if it were opaque. At least it would on my car. In my rear view mirror, I can see where the dots end, and the way the rear windshield is angled, I wouldn't be able to see out of the top half of the rear.. Doesn't seem too safe IMO.
Mines all the way up window tint. I had a problem getting it to stick for about a week since its static tint, but after that i heated it up and finally it stuck, turned on my defroster to add a little heat and now its fine.
if you put some sort of see threw vinyl then it would be the same as getting tint......it would be vinyl tint

I just got my windows tinted 3 days ago and the guys said theyd use glue on the dot matrix but of course it didnt come out as nice as id like. In order to put vinyl over the matrix will i have to remove the tint thats on my dot matrix? I figure i would but how would i go about that.?
can i ask why anyone just doesn't paint the tent with the spray on tent ??? seems to me like that would be the best way because you would still be able to see out of it just my opinion
