They're done.... no longer making new products. There are warehouses with plenty of items still in stock.

What are you looking for?

They got shut down by a multi-million dollar lawsuit from the DOT for putting false DOT tags on their products. Serves them right for making cheap, ugly, POS products.

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA -- Pilot Automotive has acquired the inventory and intellectual property of automotive accessories and performance company American Products Company (APC) of Corona, CA. It was reported earlier this year that APC was going out of business, at the time, aftermarketNews was unable to confirm these reports with the company.

Established in 1983, Pilot Automotive Inc./Wang's International supplies and distributes car and truck accessories, import performance accessories, lighting products and wiper blades to retail automotive chains, mass merchandisers, warehouse distributors and specialty markets.

Pilot Automotive COO Mitch Williams noted that “APC enjoys some of the strongest consumer brand recognition in the history of the specialty equipment industry. With the market positioning and capabilities that Pilot has, this was a natural acquisition for us.”

Williams added that APC is a great fit with Pilot’s other brands.

“This acquisition will allow Pilot to expand its product range and market coverage and allow APC to focus on the promotion of the APC brand. The focus of the APC brand will be on legally compliant, high quality products and outstanding service levels,” said Williams. “Pilot is known for excellent service levels, so APC customers are going to really enjoy the new APC brand.”

As part of the acquisition agreement, all existing Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable responsibilities will remain with APC.

LOL. I'll have to find the report I got about the DOT thing. I wonder how little APC was worth at the time Pilot bought the rights to its molds and crap.

That's not completely accurate. The DOT didn't sue APC, in July 2000 they ordered them to recall certain clear tails which are illegal under FMVSS No. 108 for replacement equipment. Specifically, that Federal law states that replacement equipment has to meet the same SAE standards as the original OEM equipment.; clear tails don't because they lack a red side reflex relfector.

The recall included about two dozens tail light models, specifically ones made for Acura Integras, Chevy S-10s, Silverados and Sierras, Dodge Neons, Ford Ranger, F-150 and Mustang, Honda Accord, Prelude and Civic, Mistubishi Eclipse and issan Hardbody. The expense of the recall certain didn't help APC, but I'm not sure that's what caused their sale to Pilot.

And from the press release posted above, it's clear Pilot plans to contnue actively marketing the APC brand, so a lot of this thread kind of reminds me of the below:

a buddy of mine had a pair of the s-10 clears that got recalled...apc also had to pay his ticket for non relfective tail lights..
