I am looking to buy a new car since I no longer have the cavalier
I was looking on craigslist.com earlier and I found an Acura TL type-S for sale. I emailed the seller and he sent me an email saying that it is his first auction on craigslist and he got promoted, and with the promotion his employer gave him a car. So after a talk with his wife about it, he has decided to sell the car because it's "sensles" to keep the car only to occupy the garage. He wants $5400 for the car and wants the deal closed through "eBay'sBuyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected". The cars specs are: 2007 Acura : TL Type S: Miles:14800. Is he trying to take my money somehow, even though it would be going through eBay'sBuyer Protection Program. Dude's name is Brian Peterson.
somethings wrong with that 5400 for a 07 acura tl.
ask him why he wants to go through ebay for
buyers protection program and not just have you come pick it up and give him cash?

hummm....this car retails for around 30K, and it can be yours for 5K....seems legit to me
I emailed him and asked if I could come see the car and pay him cash for it, he said he moved to Canada, which he did say the first time we talked I just didn't read it right. He says that if we use the EBay protection plan and I am not 100% guaranteed I can return it to him without a problem.
Moved to Canada, CHEAP @$$ nice car for sale, Will only go with ebay after you offered cash?????
Get the VIN and do a carfax first, ask where he originally got the car (state, city, county whatever) then try to find out if the car is hot (stolen) or whats going on with it. It MIGHT be legit, some people like to jsut be nice, but do your research first.
Hello,
My name is Brian Peterson and I'm glad to see your interest in purchasing my car ( 2007 Acura : TL Type S: Miles:14800 ).
What can I tell you in a few words is that I am an individual seller, I am not a dealer and this is my first type of auction on Craigslist. The car that I have for selling is mine , it is personal property and I am going to sell it because I was promoted to my work and in the same time they gave me a new car for work and moving for my needs. In conclusion, I don't need two good cars for the moment and I decided, after a discussion with my wife (sometimes is very difficult to be persuasive, you know what I mean) about selling my car, because it is sensles to keep the car only to occupy the garage. In the above I told you I was promoted at work (extraordinary thing) but I had to move with my family in another location (we must do sacrifices all the time) and now I live in Edmonton ,Canada .It hasn't been involved in any accident or anything of this type.
My final price on it is US $ 5400 . As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal closed only through eBay'sBuyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and you inspect it ( for 15 days ) eBay will release the payment to me; in this way we are both protected. I know you need a bill of sale and the original title and it will be no problem, once you receive the car, you will receive them as well so you can register the car on your name. You will have along with the papers that you need for the registration a bill on your name with the price and short description to confirm that you have already bought the car.
Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your FULL NAME and FULL ADDRESS where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.
Best Regards.
Brian Peterson
The car is here in Edmonton ,Canada and I have it prepared for immediate shipping.
If we reach an agreement, I am willing to take care of the truck shipping to your address.Shipping will take 5-7 days maximum. I have managed to obtain a low cost shipping, only $400 and I presume it would be fair to split the shipping cost so, we'll pay $200 each. Meaning, that the car and the shipping/handling will cost you $5,600.00 I think this is reasonable.I have an account with ebay so I can close this deal through them.eBay will hold the money until you receive, test and accept the car.In order to validate our deal i need to forward your details to ebay as my buyer so they can release our invoice with payment method and security program. If, for some reason, you disagree with the car (I assure you that is NOT going to happen since my car is in IMMACULATE condition inside and out) it will be shipped back to me on MY EXPENSE and you will receive your money back.
If you wish to proceed further, I will need your FULL NAME and FULL ADDRESS so I can start the transaction with eBay's Vehicle Purchase Protection Program.
Regards
Sorry to take up so much room by posting both of these...

there's a difference between being nice, and screwing themselves over thousands of dollars.
it has to be a scam. i'm not sure how, but it has to be.

If it sounds too good to be true..it probably is.. Hate to say it cause it actually seems somewhat legit..but damn that's just TOO good of a deal...
its a scam. not sure why you would think otherwise.
ebay doesnt do escrow (which is what he is suggesting) and even if they did, you would just purchase the car at auction and the process would be taken from there. the seller wouldnt "forward your info to ebay".
and even with those glaring inaccuracies aside, lets think about it: 5k for a 30k car? sure, you can get good deals at auctions, but people dont have a buy it now on stuff like that with such a low price. and even after giving such an amazing deal he surely wouldnt take another $200 off for shipping.
come on man.....common sense!!! use it!
i found a 350Z with a turbo kit, lambo doors, volk wheels, and a custom paint job on AutoTrader for $300 once. I emailed autotrader to let them know it was questionable. Turned out it was. The guy stole a pic of the car off the internet and put up a fake sale on autotrader. Besides... consider the cost to "ship" a car... i would think he'd rather you go pick it up. If he isnt cool with you going to get it, he doesnt really have the car.

Although there are plenty of red flags, maybe the 5k is what is remaining on the loan and the seller is looking for payoff only?
That stuff comes up daily in my area for Craiglist. Great car, cheap price, always fake.

the chances of it being like that are what....? 1 in 100,000? probably more, really. unless he was majorly strapped for cash, no one in their right mind would take 20k+ less then what they could get out of it otherwise.
Is it worth the risk to you to fly up there yo see it and buy it? Asumming the possibility of it not being there? Personally i would never buy a car without test driving it first. I dont know ofany gauranteed way of checking if its legit other than seeing it/ checking VIN for being stolen

Now with northstar V8, IRS, 20's n 22's
SCAM..that type of thing always shows up on craigslist and kijiji around here. I emailed a guy once about a lexus for like 4500, and he sent me the same exact type of email about wanting to go through ebay and whatnot.
sounds pretty legit to me.
just report it to craigslist and be done with it. Theres no way in hell that deal is legit. Tell him to e-mail you pictures of the car while holding up a news paper from Edmonton on a certain day. If you don't get a reply back, it'll be no surprise really.
Here is what will most likely happen...
He will email you a link to this "ebay buyer protection" site. It will look quite real and legit. It may even have a believable URL. Unfortunately it will not be. It will not *really* be run by ebay, but some scam artist/group. You pay, money goes away, and that's all she wrote.
or,
Similar to the above, you will be sent to a site that looks real enough. It will steal your ebay and/or paypal login, and before you know it, your accounts will be used for other fraudulent activity. They only need your account for a few days to make some real money off of it.

the former." - Albert Einstein
I said this to him, "Where are you located, I'd like to personally see the car and pick it up. If I did that, I could pay you cash for it." and I got no response. You guys were right, it probably was a scam... I learned from it though, luckily it didn't go any farther than it did though.
