Mainly my only concern is whether this would have any negative effects on your engine or not....
i wonder how many more of these stupid things are going to come to light now that gas is the price it is
I have heard from some people that this will have adverse affects on your fuel system as the E85 would without modification.
i think mythbusters tested it. they said it was a myth
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
if it sounds too good to be true.........................it is
why is everyone worried about gas if you drive a cavalier????????????????? my 2005 auto eco gets 35-38 mpg and my 98 2200 auto averages 30 mpg. oh my! thats sooo bad! I cant handle that!!??? I'll just keep running my regular pump gas in my cars and keeping my tank always above half a tank
If there was a universally beneficial additive that would improve mileage for everyone with no ill effects, wouldn't it be in the fuel already? Or do you believe "the Man" is keeping acetone out of fuel to increase our dependence on big oil?
Seriously though, Mythbusters did a convincing test of it. The effect on carbureted engines was a negligible improvement. Fuel injected engines actually got worse.

Acetone did nothing for my cars... waste of time and money.
Now toluene.... there's a good thing to add to reduce detonation!!

well for us 2.4 guys.....factory says 18 to 25 mpg. im lucky to 23 mostly highway (although im in florida and highway speeds are 80)
im not bitching about gas though
are the eco's really that good on gas?
mine is but maybe its becuase of some of my mods done to it, and the fact that I drive within 3 mph of the speed limit ALL the time unless im racing at SIR in tucson.
SIR is 86 miles from my place, I can drive to sir, make 4 runs down the quarter mile, drive back home and I use one notch over quarter tank of gas. and the speed limit on the way to sir is 75mph.

factory also said my 2.2 would only get about 25 mixed... yet i have gotten 40 before. it really is in the details. regular maintenance, clean filters (all of them) decent plugs, and breathing mods coupled with a knowledge of how to economically drive a 5 speed car will net you excellent mileage. even when i drive "spiritedly" i still manage over 33. worst i ever got was when my shift cables wore in such a way that any gear above 3 was impossible, i got 28.

I have the 4t40e auto and get awesome gas mileage....
all my filters are changed and cleaned often, maybe even more than needed per say but I like my cars to run good and stay reliable. also change my plugs once a year. and i use ac delco iridium plugs in my 05 and ac delco platinum in my 98. oil and filters are changed every 1500 miles. fuel filter changed every 10,000 miles. etc etc.
maybe thats why my old 22re lasted 480,000 miles with the most major thing being changed was the timing set...
i get between 30 and 38 mpg with my 98 z24
16-19 MPG with a 1997 2.2 OHV that get short-tripped about 15 KM a day. Tank of gas lasts about 3 weeks. Just had a tune-up. Runs great. Yes, I checked my math.

since when does the factory tell you mixed mpg. they give you city and hwy.
i have an auto and also drive "spiritedly". I do all the regular maintenece.the only reson i even get this good of mpg is because i live in Florida instead of Pittsburgh now. it was worse before. I also had a civic in Pgh. It got 30 in the city and 40 on the hwy no matter how i drove. I beat the shyte out of it every day and i got 30mpg.
Im not trying to really compare the 2, but just trying to say that i know driving habits make a difference. Theres still no way in hell that im gonna get 10mpg more than i do now by doing any kind of different driving
Is it me or am i the only person who doesn't care about gas prices? I mean it's not that big of a deal, the price is what it is, you have to pay it and you have to use it so why complain and ask about ways to get better mpg, don't mod your car or run the hell out of it, easy enough.
Modding the car can improve mileage. Obviously you're not tight on cash, but people who are on a tight budget and already stretched thin are really hurting these days with the extra cost of gas. If they can save a few bucks... they really need to do it.

what an ignorant statement. what? everyone is exactly like you?
you need to realize that the gas price affects EVERYTHING you buy. the price of all necessities has gone up drastically. So, like weasel said, those people that were barely getting by before and having a hard time, not only because of gas, but because of everything else included. I see nothing wrong with people trying to save a few dollars here and there.
