motor mount driving me crazy.

heres the skinny...

i had an RK sport lower mount on my car for a while (stock upper no RK insert)

worked great for 6-8 months but recently it started to sound like its hitting something when the car comes to a stop, or i let off the gas(occasionally)
also happens when i put the car in gear(D or R)

i have had this problem before so i brought out an old stock dogbone and threw it in there, torqued it down. usually this fixes it. i inspected the Rk sport mount and there are no broken pieces, the bolts were also torqued down properly( i checked before removing)

the stock mount had NO CHANGE to the situation, and if anything made it worse.

i have the upper mount torqued down as hard as i can get it. i checked this also.

any thoughts? im 95% positive its the lower mount.

i checked around the engine bay for possible clearance issues, and looked for spaces where rubbing or lack of paint was present from scratching and what not.

help.

trans mounts possibly?? if changing the lower mount didnt fix the problem.....its probably not the source.

Check teh trans mount and the upper mount. As stated, if changing the lower mount made no change it probably isnt the cause.

yeah man thats just kind of common sense to know if you replace something and it still has the same problem then its something else. but hey props for ruling that out. now you know it isnt RK Mount

could be the trans mount. thats still original. how much for a replacement mount (ish)

the reason i replaced the lower mount was due to it solving the problem the first time, figured it happened again. the upper mount could also be a cause. ill have to grab one of those and a trans mount after that and see what will fix it.

It could also be your steering knuckle connected to the strut. I know that sounds weird but it happened to me. Of course I had just changed out my struts check that as well.

Sounds exactly the problem I had when I installed the Rk sport lower strut mount on my 01 cavalier, I end up replacing my upper motor mount with TTR mount the problem was gone, I also thought it would be the tranny mount it was in good order. Doesn't hurt to check out the tranny mount. Good Luck.

The automatic tranny mount u are looking for is located in the engine compartment obn the drivers side. If u remove the air box its easier to see. Its around 8"x6" inches, Its rectangle looking part has rubber mount circle inside the casting, About four bolts that hold it into place.

Good Luck.
