im doing my oil change on my 98 2200 ohv 3 speed sedan today and saw this plug hanging down right by my a/c compressor and it doesnt stretch out much further from where it is just a little bit, my a/c hasnt worked in a while it used to then just quit and I even recharged it, is this something to do with the a/c? if not where does it go?
thanks for your reply rich.
but after further investigation there is still a small plug plugged into the compressor, and this one is a little larger than that, so still open to ideas as of what it is? if anyone needs more info on my vehicle just let me know. thanks.
there's not much in that area that takes a plug really. all i can think is low side pressure sensor in the ac line, the coolant level sensor, and the compressor itself.

still open for suggestions, bumpage
Well lets see here, it is a two wire sensor, so it has a power and ground only, so that eliminates being a sensor.
You didnt mention any CEL on, so it isnt something to do with emissions control.
Sure looks like a A/C compressor clutch plug to me.

so NO sensor could only have two wires?

coolant tank?

I know that color is the evaporative canister Purge Valve - Passenger side wheel well up above the charcoal canister.

FYI - the A/C plug is white bodied clip and has two retention clips 180 degrees apart - also has an in-line diode about halfway up to the alternator in it's own little case - at least on a 1998 :-)
there are no codes, i have a code scanner and i scan both my j's every oil change or whenever a cel pops up of course.
and i saw the connector in the a/c compressor its in ther nice and tight. when i get a chance i will take a look and see if it goes to the evaporative canister purge valve, however it doesnt look long enough to go into the wheel well area, the wire really isnt very long at all from the harness maybe 5-6". thanks guys so far.
looks like the end of a 880 plug, aka factory foglights
this is a base model with some dealer options, no fog lights, factory or aftermarket on this j yet. only dealer options it has is a/c, 15" wheels instead of 14", power locks, that was it far as i know. thanks for suggestion though.
and the plug doesnt look like the one you pictured and there is only one like it.
either later today or monday whenever my wife stops driving the car everywhere for a few mins lol i can take a look under there again and under that pass. side wheel well.
What color are the wires on the plug?
brown and white or blue and white something like that idr without looking and wont have chance to look at least untill tomorrow.
The only other connectors in that area (on my 98) is coolant temp or coolant tank that would be a two wire.
But those colors on the connector body and seal relate to purge valve or abs on my car.
do you have a block heater? i know my block heater plug is around the same location.
My vote is for pressure sensor in the ac line. It wouldnt be hard to overlook it if you didnt know it was there and most likely wouldnt throw a code.
^^may be a 3 prong plug for the pressure sensor now that I think about it.
My vote is going to coolant tank.

knock sensor is single wire. It's a piezo-electric device.
still havnt found where this plug goes and i scanned my 98 today got the code for a/c pres sensor malfunction so maybe it is a/c related an dthats why my a.c doesnt want to work. but if it is an a/c plug does anyone have a pic of where it goes, there is already a plug plugged into the condensor i checked that so where does this plug go?? thers is nothing on it in the haynes or chiltons i have
you sir have foglights lol... stories about some jbodies with harnesses for options not installed. like power windows ans so on. but it could be from the compressor its self?
this is the harness from my z24 headlight harness. notice the plug?

wait, if its for fog lights shouldnt it reach the bumper it doesnt even reach that far, its very short from where u see it in the pic doesnt really go much elsewhere, also why would gm put the one wire but not the wire plug behind the dash for it or the switch in the panel etc?
the compressor plug is in the compressor and as said im getting a code i already erased this\ it so dont remember the number but it said something like a/c low sensor circuit malfunction, and if its nothing to do with that plug what might that code be for as its not even in either the chiltons or haynes i have?
thanks
