Has anyone tried removing the PCV vent tube from the LD9 timing chain cover and replacing it with a AN fitting??

wouldnt be a problem give it alittle heat and pull it out, then weld on the bung, i will be doing this over the winter too...

I was actualy just thinking about this the other day. Would it be possible to pull it out and tap it for a fitting? I dont know anyone who welds aluminum and there arent realy any good shops around me for that.

I don't mind having it welded on, but I am looking to see if I can tap it first.

I would think you should be able to tap it no problem.

Nice! I have to pick up a spare timing housing to have pc'd anyway. So who knos what tap and size thread fitting would work the easiest? Ive never had that nipple out and seen the housing, so is drilling it a little larger required or would a certain tap and npt-an fitting work fine?
besides having a better seal what would the benefit of this be?

Yeah, I've done it. An XRP -6an or 8 dont remember is sitting in mine right now.

Maybe the high HP cars may have a need to put it there
I want to run AN line from the timing chain housing to the PCV baffle at the block and from the baffle to my HO intake.
When almost everything under the hood is braided stainless line, doing this makes things cleaner

Yea I hate having a hose going from my timing housing to my catch can(pcv baffle is bypassed), ss line would look soo much better. Ill just buy a bunch of 8an ss line as I want it for my main hose for my vacuum manifold. Eventualy Ill do all vacume/ fuel connections in ss line as well
OT but anyone know if the large nipple on the back of certain 2.3 ho manifolds can be pulled out?

Bybassing the baffle? Aren't afraid the PCV system won't properly now?

not really because really your doing the same thing as you be to running it threw the plastic baffle only running threw the baffle the oil collected it put back into the motor

Yep. Been running like this for a while, the other hose off the catchcan is just an open breather filter since I dont realy have an intake setup. Then I also have a fitting tapped in my ho manifold for the pcv port that goes to a manifold vacuum with a check valve inline.
Last time I pulled the inake mani before I had the pcv head port vacuum made, my intake ports on my head were clean as a whistle.

Good luck tapping it...warm investment cast aluminum...... I wouldn't try it, unless it was on a spare housing. I used a -10AN fitting, I just check today. I actually have 2 more XRP fittings if anybody else is interested. Also, the timing chain housing doesn't weld very well either since it is very porous and bleeds oils when you weld on a used housing....I even deep cleaned it in an automatic parts scrubber and I still had to stop several times.
EDIT: Also, when you tap it you are going to loose alot of cross-sectional area or flow area since now your going to have to stick threads in there.

it works to tap it i had to bucuse my buddys fell out kinda weird

Yeah, pretty much. If tapping it works, go for it, I just wasn't willing to give up the flow area. Welding it was decent, just be sure to remember it will look weird when your welding it and that's only due to the contaminants. With welding it I have 5/8" flow area and I still plan on drilling that out as much as the fitting will let me which might be another 16th or a tad more.

yeah the cover is a very poor casting and will crack easy
if you are gonna tap it , go very slowly , and when you put the fitting in use liquid teflon and do not over tighten it
