LN2 lovers LOOK!!! found an adjustable timing gear and teh highest HP n/a motor
Saturday, May 01, 2010 6:25 PM
well i went to the races today and the Pro-Four modifieds were racing. i noticed one of the cars had an LN2 in it so i went down and looked

he runs an esslinger ford 2.3 adjustable cam gear on his cavalier with the matching ford crank timing gear and tensioner built onto a backing plate for tension. this setup was sweet!!!

o ya and the riser on the vavle cover is for a complete rocker stud girdle that has been made. all the cam bearings have individual oil lines and he turn this 8200-8700 RPM every lap, has had it up to 9500 RPM

the engien is 14:1 compression runs on alcohol and has twin weber side draft carbs on a custom manifold with electronic ignition

HP you ask?????

284 WHP HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA i was blown away

why do #1 and 4 primaries look bigger than 2 &3?

Neat setup.

I think its just looks like that because of how 2 and 3 dip down under 1 and 4. If you look at the very top of them, they look all the same.

I think its just a trick of the light or something. Depending on the angle I look at it they either look the same or look a little bigger.

Anyway, awesome setup, wonder what kind of $$$ it would take to duplicate...

Now thats a LN2 I could live with, very neat setup for sure.

that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra
scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster, roaming the countryside.

the owner said he has $9000 invested, keep in mind this motor is in a modified that has 10" wide hoosier slicks and only weighs 1900 lbs

284whp??? Was it punched out and/or stroked? If not, that's an 8-valve engine making conservatively 320hp at the crank, which would be almost 150hp/liter.

I'm not necessarily calling BS, but that's a lot to swallow. I guess anything's possible with that kind of work and cash though. Nice find~

this would never be able to be reproduced in a J body without extensive engine bay widening...

it is bored .060 but that is it, max CI for the class is 144 or 2330 cc

Absolutely awesome. Bookmarked for future LN2-bashing threads lol.

If you meet him again, try to get him to register here. Having an LN2 on top of the N/A list would be hilarious.

Its also running alcohol on 14:1 compression. The hp/liter ratios you're used to seeing are based on pump gas. Big difference. I'd also imagine that rig is using some kind of solid rocker conversion so the cam is a lot more wicked than anything we've seen before. There are a lot of Honda race engines out there making well over 300+ whp on race gas so I don't see anything skewed enough to really doubt the claim.

Are those hondas SOHC 8-valve models - like a D15 or something? You can build a 300whp n/a K24/K20 that runs on pump gas if you want.

Like i said, i'm not totally doubting the claim, but think about it - over 320 n/a hp at the crank out of a 2.3L 8-valve engine. 14:1 static cr is like 50% more compression than stock. Yes, That's a lot. Yes it may have a wicked cam and some extravagent head work, but it just seems unreal.

Put it this way - all things equal - one point of extra CR gains 5-10% roughly. so five points on the LN2 would gain ~50% for example. Were talking nearly three times the factory output here - n/a?

I guess i just need to educate myself on true dedicated race engines, and realize that this thing doesn't live on the street.

my ln2 is 12:1 .450 hydraulic cam with a stock head custom intake with carb and distributor... i put down 204 WHP

Ok i'm not saying it's impossible - just hard to swallow.
Bob, do you have a dyno?

just think what that motor would be like with lower compression and a turbo

i dont have a dyno, a local one sponsors my race car

we put down 167hp with a stock 91 motor shaved head cam ditributor and carb.... no porting and no header

^^^ im sorry i just dont see how doing a fuel and a timing conversion to a LESS efficient setup is going to net you over 50whp more than anyone else on here n/a with a OHV.
