Thought maybe somebody might be interested in this. I got tired of dicking with the CDI cover and boots but I didn't want to pay for a 2.2 or DSM coil swap. A buddy of mine that's a mustang guy just happen to have a spare set of mod motor coils laying around. So after an hour or so trying to get the wiring fun we ended up with a coil on plug LD9.
Interesting.

Nice, would be mi next step, replace that unreliable OEM set up
Hmm
Want hub spacers rear disk brackets or trailing arm bushings? Shoot me a PM.
It makes life alot simpler. Plus it looks wayyy better.
Looks a little goofy on an LD9. I'd like to see it done on an Eco.
i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick
I'm confused, You're still dealing with boots...
- Your not-so-local, untrained, uncertified, backyard mechanic. But my @!#$ runs
How do you intend to make this work without an external ignition controller or standalone EMS? The stock ICM will only work in wasted spark. You could wire the coils in this orientation, but it would be a waste (as well as a possible danger to the coils without control of the dwell).
I have no signiture
I've been running this setup for almost two months now so I can assure you it works just fine. And of course you have to run boots... But a couple inches of spring through a boot is better then a couple feet of wire (as with the 2.2 or DSM swap).
More pictures? These boots reach the plugs? I'm thinking you could still run a nice IDI cover to cover this up.

Also this is not the first time coil on plug has been done on a LD9.
First time the actual person that did it has been on here to get more info.

You could absolutly use the cover still. I just choose not to because personally I think the engine looks better without it. Im currently using PI 4.6 ford boots. I am yet to get a proper bracket together. Whats on there is temporary to get me by. Once I get a permanent setup together Id be happy to post more pictures or maybe even do a write up. I really just posted this to see if anyone would actually be interested in this lol
id be interested in hearing about how it is wired up for sure.
i would do this to my car as well
fab up a nice mounting plate and that would top it off.
Sorry I've been out of town for a week. Will try to get the bracket done this weekend and post more pics.
Yes, more pictures. I am a little upset I bought new stock coils about a month ago, lol.
honestly i gotta admitt thats pretty neat.
although i love the look of an IDI cover and also see absolutely nothing wrong with the stock ignition setup. its actually quite efficient and compact.
I choose the technology built for land speed records... not the technology built to save on emissions and gas mileage.
Could we have a wiring schematic please?
im almost certain that the lsj coils plug right into our coil pack connector which would also give you a waste spark COP swap and should still have the same dwell time as ours so you wouldnt fry the coils

I will post a small write up with pics tomorrow
after some thinking the LSJ coils wont work as a straight swap do to the computer not being able to control them. LSJ PCM controls ignition thru 58x trigger wheel, L61 ICM controls ignition thru 7x trigger wheel.
