This is probably more then a question about which car is better choice for me to buy, turbo v.s. supercharger, dodge v.s. chevy etc....Next year I plan on buying or leasing a new car and do to my own personal reasons I have narrowed it down to these two cars, the dodge srt-4 and the chevy cobalt ss, right now I am leaning towards the srt-4, but I have heard lots of good things about the cobalt ss. Objectively speaking which do you guys prefer? and for what reason?
I think the Cobalt SS is the nicer car, but the SRT-4 is definitely faster. It's really going to come down to preference. Test drive both and decide what you want.
If it's all about speed, go for the SRT-4.
If your leasing next year then the Cobalt SS will be much faster with the 2.4 ecotec supercharged......Not to mention look nicer, have a much better interior...

i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
AND ITS NOT A FRIGGIN NEON..... Go with the SS

SRT-4 = better speed and less looks, car sneezes between gears if a BOV added
Cobalt SS = less speed and better looks, sounds like a whining baby
Id pick the SS

how reliable is the 2.4 in the srt-4? any known problems yet? that's what I'd be concerned with.. I believe the ecotec has proved itself. That's a major thing I'd research into to make a decision, because you know you're not going to be babying the engine much, no matter how much you plan to.

Where'd you come up with this little tidbit of info? I've never heard of them putting in a blown 2.4L...
The 2.4L NA is coming, but it's got less power, not more.
The 2.4 N/A is already here.
173HP, with variable valve timing.
It's in the Solstice, the HHR, and Cobalt SS (not supercharged)
I thought Gm was coming with a Super charged version of the 2.4 in years to come ?

That's what we'd like to see, but it's never been confirmed.

If they make one it will wipe the floor with the srt 4's 2.4.... Not to mention be of better qaulity... I hear about dependability problems with this car non stop, always something going wrong when modifications are done. could just be internet bashing though.. You never really know. I would love to own any of them though, all fantastic cars.

Most problems with the SRT-4 are the result of "user-error".....
Then again, Ive heard of quite a few SS's with non-stop problems which are soon to be lemon-lawed.
Dependability with a car which costs less than $30,000 sticker is a toss-up....you get one good one, one bad one. But thats just my opinion.

NO SUCH THING AS A QUALITY GM CAR!!! Lets get that straight.
1/8 9.32 @ 75.231mph
1/4 14.54 @ 93.46mph
Friend has a Redline(saturn version of the SS) and yea the 2.0L Eco had a few problems like porous(sp) blocks and oil seeping down the sides, however the cars pull HARD my friend even beat a stock SRT4 with his Redline.(think the SRT4 guy was shifting late)
Another friend had a SRT4 all stage2 and that thing was plain loud, fast and ugly.Bigger guys(wider) will have troubles in the front seats as im about 205pounds and i barely fit in the racing seats(stock, same seats as a viper). The back felt very good and comfy lots of headroom and im 6'1".
Overall id also look into a Redline also( cant hate Suicide rear doors!!)
Juiced Towncar
my buddy has a cobalt SS here in hamilton... black...... and loves the thing... he couldnt decide between and rsx and cobalt SS but when he test drove the SS he picked it... I love the sound of it........ sounds amazing
SRT-4. It's faster, same price, and more functional (4 doors). Drive both, I find the SRT-4 is bigger and more comfortable for me. The Cobalts nice, just feels smaller... but I'm 6'3"
although im a chevy guy, i would take a srt4 ANYDAY over a SS... mostly because im becoming very mad at GM and the @!#$ quality they are producing
beisdes, there is so much more potential in a turbo'ed car, over supercharged.. IMO
Insert Funny Saying Here
has the srt-4's life come to an end, my buddy was telling me that it's over for the srt-4 and dodge is replacing it with another model, does anyone know if this is true? cause it would surely effect my buying decision.
The Dodge Caliber is slated to replace the SX 2.0 nee Dodge Neon. Expect an SRT version of it not too long after release, probably similarly powered.
14.330 @ 96.37mph
The srt-4 is no more but menzes dealership in Whitby has one, blue, used...
