What happened to this forum being about the goings-on in the region? Shows, discussions, etc. Almost every post now is a "for sale" or "want to buy" post. I remember when Kevin only allowed a bit of this to happen but now it's just ridiculous.
Not that I overly care per-se but I'm just curious if anybody else has noticed this trend and had thoughts about it?
Is the scene really so dead that all we can talk about is selling everything we've got?

Slowly but surely may some day win this race...
I've noticed that too Chris..
but I'm guilty of putting a for sale add up or two over the years.. personally I think this particular regional forum doesn't get much action because most people visit the JCO when it comes to ontario based events/discussion (however I do realize this regional forum is for manitoba and nunavut too) .. but thats just my opinion/observation

Goin down...!
Events are getting smaller and smaller...
Sad..!
I've been trying to lock multiple FS posts and things getting "bumped" to keep things in order, but there just isn't much discussion going on here.
What do you mean.....it's only like 27 out of 30 topics that are WTB/FS ad's.....
.
I think it's safe to say...'round these parts the scene is dead. Other than those pawning off all their wares, and a few here and there looking to improve theirs, it's pretty much just the old-schoolers who come around. And even then, there aren't any real discussions to speak of. Certainly is a far cry from how it used to be, but times change.

i have discussions on other areas of this board daily just this forum has never been really hopping with discussion
dudes cause dudes.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
i do this as a buy/sell, mostly. But is that really a huge deal? not much goes on this time of year.
as Kris said, everyone seems to go to the JCO for all the Ontario stuff, which, that's what it mostly seems to be. not many people from Manitoba or Nunavut it seems with J's, or, they have stopped trying to come on here because of the lack of commitment from existing members.
personally, I like to be able to come into here and see local stuff that's up for sale as I find picking something up is easier than having it shipped out and either A, have it broken during delivery, or B, have it not show up at all only to find out your money is gone.
This place is like "J-Body Craigslist" lol... Chris I've read some of your replies on threads and quite frankly if I were a "newb" I'd be scared to post any updates if they're not "real mods" as you like to call them... Don't get me wrong though, I find a lot of these posts hilarious with the "flaming" that goes around... probably the only reason why I still check them time to time... and it's kinda cool to see a lot of the old j's still kicking around... I'd only have two posts a year anyway... rims are on... and rims are off... lol...
"Would you drop it already?!? I mean your car..."
lol i agree, its a new for sale forum. we can always go to jco for another new reason now i guess.
I think the whole change in this forum has been mainly due to the fast that those who posted the most in this section have now had some large life changes. We've all gotten older now, and most of us own houses, are married and even some, have kids. The car lost interest with some of us, while others still have theirs. It's sad to see that the new blood isn't on here as much as the older group, but maybe that would change. It's a sign of the times. The j-body is getting older and everyone is starting to dump them for a change of pace and something more practical.
I just keep buying more of them
up to my 5th one this year haha
i dont know how people lose interest
i have a kid, a wife new job on the way and probably a house in the new year and am also getting a newer truck in the spring
and i still love my car and still have interest in it, maybe it doesn't get the same amount of attention that it used to but i am still on the forums all the time and still enjoy the people
ya my priorities have changed but i still need a hobby and a social life
i just never understood why people just leave cause of these things, maybe you really weren't into as much as you led on if it is that easy to walk away from

GF of 8years....bought the car, and it turned into a hobby and something to do...GF dont mind becuase it keeps my home and occupied, i haven't been around long, but plan on sticking around...now the car is so far along i bought a new car so i dont use this as the dd, and new vehicle coming in spring for the gf so we ain't sharing the DD anymore
"If you have no clue what's going on... STFU!"
Well, a lot of ppl have sold their j's and moved on to different vehicles. Plus, how long can you talk about adding new mufflers and spray painting interior parts?
1996 Chevrolet Cavalier SOLD | 2002 BMW 330i SOLD | 2004 BMW 645i
i agree it was died down a bunch the last little while, but ppl just moved on in there lifes and vehicles,
I love lots of cars, not just J-bodies. For lots of us these were our first real cars, we met friends in the community, girlfriends, wives. We learned so much about cars, modding and being creative during the ownership of these vehicles. While the sheer amount of enthusiasts in the J platform is a testament to the endearing history of the Venerable Cavalier, many people simply move on.
Be it for family friendlier cars, a move upmarket or simply needing a NEW car which is a way you cannot get a J any more. This is a dead platform, parts are dwindling and interest waning. This is only the beginning.
As per the original thread purpose: I have no problem with this form as it stands, local for sale ads still interest me, as does the small amount of enthusiast content. Besides, not all of us move 'Forward'
^^ I see that sunfire is still kicking around. Nice classic my friend.
As a first car, the cavalier was a great option. For the money and what you got, I couldn't complain. Times have changed and a new car was needed, something that said here's a successful 30 year old and not a loud obnoxious cavalier driven by some old guy thinking he's still 19. Maybe its cause of where I live, but people thought very different of me driving around my cavy then driving around in my bimmer now.
The interest in cars is always in the blood, its just move a step higher to something new and better.
Nice Corvair.
i could careless what people think of me driving a cavalier but now mine are all stock just being lowered and its my commutter vehicle. i have my Tahoe
and other projects
The Sunfire was purchasedon this very forum for what I think was a great deal and has served me very well over the last year of ownership. A cheap commuter car is what these guys do best
There's something to be said about worrying about what people think when you drive your car. You're asking for the wrong type of respect if you think that driving a bmw is going to get it.
I like my car, its a fun toy. I'll buy something newer down the road, but I'll keep the cav until it dies. That said... yes this is a for sale forum now
" To study and not think is a waste. To think and not study is dangerous. "
I agree with Dave. My sunfire will be with me till it dies or if my sister ever decides that she isn't afraid to drive standard. Nothing wrong with for sale forum, however it is somewhat boring and mundane to read.
