Custom made Springs
Sunday, April 16, 2006 9:03 PM
Besides GC & Tein packages, does anyone know any place that will make completely custom springs at a decent price? Just surfing around I found a few places that look promising, I'll call them in the morning. But I'm really wanting to have springs made to my exact specs without paying an arm and a kidney. Looking for either Linear or Progressive (prefer progressive).

There arent any springs out there with the rates you are looking for?

I dont know much about them I just know there are a whole bunch of different kinds. Or if you get coilovers you could adjust the spring rate right?

^ Coilovers are ride height adjustable and typically come with a single set progressive spring rate.

To answer your question though CTS, all I could find was Tanabe-USA, but the part of their site about custom springs is under construction. You could still contact them I guess. Good luck.

Jason: I'm always learing. A lot of my "knowledge" comes from here or talking with other people.

Skyler: Nope. There's quite the gap between the little drops (0.9"-1.0") and the medium (1.4"-1.6"). I don't really want to switch to coils. Plus I have the IRS swap and the rear springs are different. I've got B+Gs now, and the rear springs have quite a few problems (too low, don't fit right, etc). Buying another set of springs just to get the rear, then find out they're not the right height (cause it's the N suspension on a J frame) or some other problem (N springs are naturally stiffer because it's a heavier car). There's a few other issues with off-the-shelf springs, but you get the idea.

My biggest probles are with the rear springs. They need to be much taller at free length, taller at ride height, 2.5" diameter at the top (still 4" at the bottom). The rate is alright. I really need to get my car up another 1/2" cause I just bare scrape getting in and out of my work parking lot. I found an area of grass that I can go over, but they'll be none to happy if I start killing the grass there.

Pyros: I'll have to call them. I only found two other places, and the one doesn't look very promising.

WannaBzee: Low-allow carbon steel would snap after a few pot holes. Also most telephone poles are 8" round, I need a couple different sizes. And I would prefer progressive rates, although price may push me to linear; we'll find out. How much would you charge though?

Eibach does it, but I would expect them to be expensive.

At least get in touch with them though. They may already make the springs you want for different cars and stuff. If you give them the specs, they may be able to pick the springs off the shelf for you.

Well, I'm not sure how much you have looked into this but I went to both eibach's and TEIN's websites. I couldn't find tapered springs from Eibach. But Tein has tapered springs with 70mm (2.75 in) on one side and 100mm (3.94 in) on the other. You can get them in many different spring rates, however the free lengths are a little limited under 6kg/mm rates. These are $65.00 a piece. Check out the site http://www.tein.com/stsp.html

I am sure anything custom made by a local shop or even some custom spring place would be quite expensive. I hope this helps.

Paperclips! Use the plastic coated ones so they don't rust!

I'm pretty sure Canuck Motorsports does it. At least they have for 2nd gens.

Just out of curiosity- why no coil-overs?

Not interested in the extra complexity and want to retain the stock look of the spring. I know that's a bit of an oxy-moron considering I have the IRS setup, but everything on my car right now came stock on some car (just not mine).

Ok. Got it. I tried to do that with all my custom mods. It looks like it supposed to be there, but its not stock.
